Got the chance to buy this Gem stright from Japan- Few questions regarding Turbo
Hey guys
just sold my 93sc400, im very interested in buying a 5 speed 1jz 2.5TT soarer , this Gem came my way , great price , and even greater mileage at only 77 000 kms.
Im just looking for some answers regarding single turbo.
1. Roughly how much will it cost to swap in a single turbo ?
2. How much power can the stock ECU handle? Id prefer to keep it stock if possible.
3. Do I need to do any engine work for it to handle a strong single ?
Any info appreciated, id like to get some good power, like 350hp at the wheels or something, nothing too crazy.
Thanks guys, I need to act fast on this or ill miss out.

Ummmmmmm buddy it's 100% not legal to import our gen Soarers yet. I assume everyone here knows this and is just rolling with it anyways, a la Skyline forums. Do this at your own risk.

^^ He did say he'd wait a couple of years, which is enough time to consider a 1991 Soarer. Currently anything 1989 or older can be imported, meaning first-year Skyline GT-R's and GTS-T's are allowed right now. The EPA doesn't care after 21 years. A friend of mine went though this with an old Mercedes G. It's not as simple as just importing it after 25 years since manufacture: you still need to have all US Customs paperwork in order and go through a Registered Importer. Then if you live in California you're still dealing with a car that was never set up for US emissions and will never pass smog due to the 30 year rolling exemption being stupidly repealed. The US DOT really hates Skyline GT-R's in particular and you don't want a single thing out of order to allow them to have the right to confiscate your car.
There is also the Show and Display exemption but it usually only applies to ultra-rare homologation cars and race cars with a known racing history. Bill Gates originated that exemption for his Porsche 959 that was held up at US Customs for years and it's a very hard loophole to use.
Edit addition: I should also mention that it also comes down to the MONTH of manufacture of any vehicle that's going to be imported. It's only legal after 25 years down to the exact month of manufacture either meeting or exceeding that time period. So if you were to try importing a 1989 Soarer this year right now but that Soarer wasn't made until later in the same year... you still need to wait a few more months before you can move ahead.
That said... OP, I'd jump on this car if you can. It looks great and the mileage is relatively low!

I belive the law asks that we wait until the car is 15 years old that is the only requirement.
From my research it seems really easy to swap in a single turbo on these as well, which is my main concern
