Just wanted to let everyone know. Curt Aigner at Elmhurst Toyota has apparently confirmed that Toyota USA will no longer stock new Getrag V160 6-speed transmissions for order. Rebuilders and even Toyota will still have internal parts on hand for repairs and freshening but it's now a used-only transmission just like the R154.
EDIT: I did have to check on this as I realized later that it is April Fools today. No, I wasn't trying to make a joke, sorry guys. Last info in the thread is that Curt has not been specifically told by Toyota that it is "discontinued" (yet) but he did try to order two V160's and had his orders cancelled or backordered for an indeterminate amount of time.
Updated my first post with new info from the SF thread. I realize it's April Fools today (I forgot) but it wasn't intended as a joke. If in fact everyone on the SF thread including Curt Aigner are playing along then consider me fooled as well.
Does anyone even spend the $8k (or however much it is) to buy it new??
yea. actually a lot of people do.
its not easy finding a used v160 in good shape.
and if you have to rebuild a v160 with the cost of buying a used one its the cost of a new one
In my oppinion, it's not worth the cash unless were running 450-900hp
W58 and r154 is far better option if you're not rich
I think so too and that's why I went with an R154 If I ever buy a Supra, it will have a V160. That said, it still costs an arm and a leg to purchased used, convert for JZ use and fully bulletproof an R154. A V160 still costs more than that to do it right.
