Default Quick question - Butterfly cupholder

Just a quickie I needa know. Wondering since the butterfly cupholder didn't come with the 92 SC's, if they will still clip right in with no trouble? I got one and tried sliding it in and it didn't want to go in all the way. Is it incompatible?

TIA

i think you need to cut squares on the panel so it would clip on.

I tried searching for it but did not find the thread on this item. A few folks have installed the holder in a '92 and as I recall it requires something to hold the tab to the back wall of the slot.... I will keep looking and if I find it will add the link....

You have to remove the center console and look at the back of the cup slot and remove the backing. Then snap the cup holder in place. DONE!

Yep exactly, have to punch out the backing, its practically meant for it but Lexus just didn't get to it or something?

Well, there is another way. Cut off the mounting tabs on the cup holder (mine had one broken off anyway), drill 2 holes in it and mount it to the plastic panel in the mounting recess with a couple of sheet metal screws (black if possible). You also want to sand/file off the little ridges on the back of the cupholder so that it goes as as far into the recess as possible. That is the way I did it and it works fine.

I'm with ya on this SC400slide. I just bought a cup holder, and I think the best approach is to remove the backing by taking out the center dashboard. I plan to do this when I have an aftermarket head unit to install.

If you end up doing this, please take MANY pictures of your steps in the process so I can check them out if and when I do this myself.

dude, the console pops out just enough to get your hands back there to squeeze the tabs and pop out that filler plastic. Don't drill your car. The tabs are there, you just have to pop out the plastic cover that's in the way
