it's a direct bolt on unit.

WHy would they even make such a product!?

Who in their sane state of mind would even use a LEXUS Coupe as a tow vehicle???

I got one bro.
I'm not joking.
I have a 93' SC400 and i ride downhill mountain bikes. The bikes have serious wheel travel (7" front and rear), 8" disc brakes, and i even sourced a ti-spring for my rear shock on the bike.
My point is DH bicycles are too big for a regular bike rack.

A trailer place here in SanDiego installed a 1 1/4" receiver hitch.
I got a removable rack that slides into the receiver. I could also install the tounge part and do small towing although i have not done so yet.

So when the rack is off, can you see the hitch at all?

I have a mountain bike, but my cousin's maxima has a bike roof rack installed. And I've been using that.
I was thinking about getting one of those those spring.
But I've always been worried stratching the roof when I put the bike up there.

Ok, the quick and cheap way that i had the hitch done requires no drilling to install the receiver on the car. Yes, you do see the small square section but its pretty under the car.
The good way, is to custom mount the receiver behind a flip down license plate unit.
Not too hard but i was in a hurry.

i have ordered a Lexus emblem hitch cover that is a fly chrome "L" that slides into the end of the unused receiver hitch.

My bike is too heavy and with the over size tires is unstable on most roofracks and trunk racks.
My "HollyWood" rack, has wide wheel trays that allow me to mount the bike with out having to remove either wheel.

That's why for me, the reciver hitch was the only way.
I would never trust my (cough), $4000 bike on any other rack design.
Doing 100mph in a SC 400 is one thing, but doing 100MPH with a big ol' bike is certainly another.

Hey, nothing wrong with the utility of the hitch, but can't say I would have one on an SC. "Tggoodrich" has one for sale in the classified, maybe it is his ebay ad. Not really a laughing subject either, I am sure there are things on your car that others think is hilarious. Just be nice, everyone has needs that may differ from yours.

I was going to get a roof rack but haven't decided, I am a big biker too and as I get burlier my bike gets heavier and heaver and I don't trust a roof rack holding a 24x3 tire

I have thought about a trailer hitch but probably won't get one, a roof rack is more inviting. It's a Sports car, which I guess also works if you want to do sports with your car.

Dang, to tell you the truth uhh.... I kinda like it I've been looking for something that I could put my skis/snowboard on for the winter trips...I didnt know they had something that would fit like that. Ive been borrowing moms Expedition. Might have to look into it though.... SC400 was there any drilling involved and can you take it off when not in use?

No drilling involved. Yes you can remove it anytime you want. I only put it on when I am using it. However air comes through where the clip on the door is and gets pretty annoying. It does not scratch btw.

Overall, I would recommend it. When mounted, it doesn't move anywhere.

Not bad Pedaling Perry.
But that's not a DH bike.
My competion bike weighs probably a good 10-15 pounds more and that pushes the limit of a non receiver mount rack IMO. 2 40-50 lbs DH bikes are hard on any rack.
A roof rack also catches alot of wind and can really unsettle the car.

Anyway, your rack is quite sanno.

The beauty of the type i have , is that the bike(s) are far off the car so driving up those really curvy roads to Lake BigBear, the bike can never scratch the car.
With yours, does your front tire sway back and forth?

I would snap a pic right now and post but the car was dropped off to TM enginnering for a couple of days. I'm finally going for the control arm bushings, sway bar bushings, Tokico shocks and Eibach springs. My 1993 SC 400 has 105K miles and rides pretty "loose".
The reciver was $250 for parts and labor,
The Hollywood rack was $225 and flips up when not in use.
