Default scrap the 1jz for another or rebuild it

Ok i need some guidance on what to do with my current 1jz in my car, it runs BUT there is a small coolant leak from either a pipe or hose behind the head that i cant see also the car has crankwalk and the twins are dead so my question is should i pull it out and try to salvage it or just buy another 1j? And i know if i bought another 1jz it could have the same problem just want to know what everyone else would do. Thanks

Either get another 1jz, or find a 2jz bottom end and 1.5jz it. A replacement 1jz will be faster and probably cheaper, but the 1.5jz is a proven performer.

Crankwalk?

Just get another engine.

Crankwalked comes from HD pressure plate slapping the crank at higher rpm, etc...

Automagic cars it happens from the tight converter.

Get another engine pull the oil pan if the trust washers are in place not sitting in the oil pan you are good to go.

replace the oil pan and you are good to go.

Yeah 1.5 is possible if you going single , it will no work on the ge block if you gonna use the stock twins.

That's not what am talking about ....I am not asking you to go single...you can't use the ge block if you gonna keep the twins , so the only options are:

get a complete 1jz swap or get a gte block., hg, arp studs, oil pump etc..

OP, sounds like just snagging another 1jz is your best bet.

You can use a GE block if you still plan on running the stock twins. I accomplished this by running a custom oil feed line to the twins. The factory oil feed line is a hard line and is not long enough. What I did was, I had my local hydraulic/hardware place weld AN fittings on the end of the feed line to the turbos. I ran a SS braided oil line from a Tee to the oil sending unit to the turbos.

I drilled and tapped out the upper oil pan for the drain. It still running strong till this day except that the twins are smoking ,

^^^ Then OP that would be your best bet! Cheaper and if it works i would go that route.

But is that one feed is providing enough oil for both turbos since they T together?

I was a little concerned about that but I took my chances and I thankfully never encountered any oil pressure issues.

OP, I would source some good twins and a GE block. This will be the least cost effective way to go plus you get a little more displacement. That stock twins on that GE block are a lot of fun.

I will shop around on here and other sites to see if any good deals pop up and I'm hoping that coolant leak is just something minor and easily replaceable, won't know anything until I yank it out the sc. Thanks everyone for the advice

I guess it all depends on what your budget and future plans are.

If you just want the car to run for now, maybe just find a 2jzge block in good shape. Which you can always turbo later if you're looking for more power.

Also, Stock twins are relatively inexpensive, but for that matter, the whole 1jz motor isn't too bad. If you're doing all your work than or concerned about labor costs, it just boils down to how much you want to spend on parts.

Hopefully there isn't anything else wrong with your motor, but If you're not in a rush and have other means of transportation, acquiring another gte motor wouldn't be a bad last resort.
