Dash stays lit after key removal
Hey guys;
So I seem to have a perplexing problem with a my 93 SC400. Lately i've noticed that every once in a while when I turn my car off that the dash stays lit up (along with the climate control) stays lit as if the key were still in the ignition turned to the on position.. I have an aftermarket Astra alarm system. It recently started doing this every once in a while and has gotten more and more frequent. When this happens I cannot lock my car using the keypad.. I replaced the key fob battery (23A 12v) and it changed nothing. Unhooking the negative battery terminal kills all the power to the car of course, but when i reconnect it, the dash and climate are still on. Tonight I noticed if I slammed my trunk shut, the dash/climate shuts off and I can lock the car. Is this related to the alarm? Or is there a sensor in the trunk that thinks it is not properly closed causing me to only be able to unlock the car? I've never seen this before and I'm almost wondering if I should just remove the alarm FWIW the alarm was installed by the PO and I haven't had this problem until the last 2 weeks..

Hmm, I did some research on google and came across this:
http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...this/?p=274625
apparently there is a wire harness on the left side of the trunk that is prone to water damage and runs to the stock phone system.. I'm going to pull the fuse (#25, engine bay) and possibly disconnect the wire to see if anything happens. This would most likely make sense, since when I slam my trunk it shuts the dash lights off .__. I'm going to try this at lunch and see what happens..
EDIT:
FOUND MY ISSUE!
Just like in the thread i linked from the US LoC, there was a wire harness that plugs in for the stock in car cell phone..except someone cut the plug and bare wires were touching each other/bare metal. Each time they touched the dash/climate would light up. So a few pieces of electrical tape later and everything is fine... I'll take a picture of this when I get home from work.
