*HOW TO/DIY* convert stock phone cable to USB charger
Gentlemen, i have completed my task. Hopefully this becomes something great or maybe even a sticky. So as you know those of us with the stock stereo for our cars, have the phone connector in the arm-rest compartment. Seems how you can't convert this to be NOT used with the stereo at all, i decided to try to make the best of it. I successfully converted it to a full USB charger. Here is a short write up as it was easy once i got the wiring diagram, overall this cost me $10 for the USB connector which i got off eBay but i will show you the packaging and they have a website. Warning these pictures are external links because i didn't want to flood the desktop with large pictures
1) open up the arm rest compartment, you will need to clear out your junk so you can see the bottom and the phone connector. You will have 3 bolts that are 10mm (Green) and 2 phillips screws (Red) that have black plastic covers on them. Unscrew them and set aside. You can now pull out the plastic/velvet covered housing for storage and have access to the full cable. Pull the cable out of the armrest and set the plastic housing to the side. Now you should just have the cable. See the connector? either clip the whole thing or just the 2 wires that you will need

2)The two wires that you will be using is the black wire (Ground) and the Green with black stripe wire (12V) and yes it is an ACC source. *hard to see in picture but its the colors on my chart and worked for me, don't use the red wire as it only delivers 9V.

3)Here is the USB cable and what it's entirety looks like.

Soldier the two wires to the USB lines, Red = Green w/blk stripe and Black=Black. I went ahead and shrink tubed the other wires as not to get any shorts in the cable

4) I tucked the wires to the front of the container before putting it all back together and ran only the usb out of the bottom of the armrest storage to keep it clean. And it works great with my iphone 5.

This tested just fine in my car, as i use the tape deck to play the tunes off my iphone, it was able to charge and play without interrupting the sound or anything, so enjoy your new USB charger.

I have a cigarette lighter USB plug also, but then the dash doesn't look quite as nice with that flap open and the annoying light that is on it, so that's why i chose this route, also you could charge 2 phones at once if you wanted, or other things
