Default 92 sc300 trade for 88 supra turbo?

i have a 92 sc300 auto with 271k miles and someone said theyll trade me for a 88 supra turbo 5 speed with around 150k miles.. i really like supras and im so sick of having an automatic, but i do love my sc too, so i dont know if i should look at the supra and possibly trade straight across. if anyone has any input on the matter at hand i would appreciate some other points of vieww, thankss!

Due to miles and autotragic, imma say yup. The Sc is ten times the car of an 88 supra if you want a good car with everything, but for driving that supra will be more of a driving car with less amenities.

yeah i plan on occasionally getting sideways in the rain.. probably more than not lol but its a 7mgte and it doesnt look like a bad car from a couple pics. And 150k sounds soo much better than my 271.. haha

I have to agree with O.L.T. and suggest you trade for the 88 Supra. I think they're great cars out of the box with the turbo engine and stock R154, just do a head gasket change when you buy it and check what service he's done.. The SC has a superior chassis but stock for stock the Supra has more performance hardware than an automatic SC. The 7MGTE is not an engine loved by many. The 1JZ and 2JZ designs are better but for modest power it should be fine. Or you could just swap in a 1JZ down the road.

Personally I think MKIII's with the 90-92 bumpers and MKIV Twin Turbo wheels look great. The SC is the superior chassis hands down but the MKIII is certainly no slouch. I nearly bought one from a used dealer some years ago with only 50k miles-- a 1990 Turbo 5-speed. I'd only suggest you check it carefully before you agree to it. Hopefully the guy is up front with you if there are any major issues you'll need to address.

From someone that had two highly modified MKIII supras, both with 7mgte and 1jzgte, stick with the SC. Find a lower mileage SC 5spd, or just do a manual 1jz swap.

I had a 89 Supra Turbo before, it was loads of fun and easy to get sideways. The old Sup has that nice Oldschool 80s appeal and the 7mgte was really reliable. It depends on what you want, Lexus SC is classy, mature, and IMO aesthetically timeless. The Supra has that Oldschool appeal, stick shift and turbo fun combination. Hmmm, up to you but id keep the SC and do a swap. I think youll be happier with it in the long run.

It would have to be one amazing MK3 Supra to trade my SC for. Stock for stock even with a 7mgte? no thanks.

um...for the cost of the 1jz, tranny and swap hes looking at what it would cost to just buy another stock sc300.

I say take the trade if the supra is legit and just buy another sc300, rather than spending the same amount swapping your current sc.

my exact thoughts were trade if its legit and just buy another sc down the road with a 5 speed of course. i just dont want the head gasket to be fu#ked if i did end up doing it. and my sc definatly isnt in perfect condition by anymeans and i got it for 2300 and hes asking 3500 for the supra.

7mgte is a piece of ****. Not only is the head gasket design bad, now people are discovering the head material is bad and goes soft after many high hp pulls. This is on even brand new oem heads.

I had a 1990 Supra turbo and loved it. Compared to my SC, it is a downgrade. I didnt have the MKIII but for like 9 months or so.

if the engine is solid and checked out it would be worth it, but we are talking about a 7mgte here, even if its solid today they can have the headgasket go out, especially if its gone out before. alot of them can also develop bottom end problems if someone raised the boost a good amount without supporting mods.
When you look at 7mgte stuff you will notice everyone has spare heads laying around and no blocks to put them on anymore.

You could just trade and swap a 1jz in for reliability if possible, I much prefer the lines of the sc over the supra through. It would only be worth it if you could flip the supra at anytime and get back into an sc.
