Advice on how to proceed with wiring problem
Hey guys,
would love your advice here. Over the last 4-5 months, I've had a new issue pop up in my 97 SC400.
I keep randomly popping my taillight fuse when my headlights come on. It doesn't happen every time, but it consistently happens every 3-5 times.
Currently in the car:
- retrofitted headlights
- Air Force Air suspension (unplugged, because of a leak)
- aftermarket head unit
Brake lights work just fine - but unfortunately, this means I can't drive at night time with no tail lights. I've had to leave my car at work a few times now just to be safe.
I took the car into my shop, who try replicating the problem after popping in a new fuse. Again - it doesn't happen EVERY time, but it definitely happens frequently. They weren't able to figure it out.
At this point, I'm unsure what to do with it short of returning everything back to stock. I'm considering taking it back to the audio shop for their opinion.
Would love all thoughts

Audio shop that did the install should be able to fix the problem - which is most likely a bad ground which must have occurred during the headunit install. Chance it's a ground problem with your HID's as well, and the audio shop should be able to fix that too.
If it's the headunit the shop should fix it free of charge too. Biggest problem is finding the bad ground, they can be tricky to track down, but an experienced audio installer should know where to look.
