Ride diff from 17 to 18
Hey guys just bought a 99 sc300 to use as a commuter car. The car came originally with 16's and I want to upgrade to something nicer. Comparing between 17 and 18 inch wheels. Don't want a rough ride and mostly will be used on the highway. Any input would be appreciated thanks. Also NOT planning to lower it so what ever would look nicer.

I just upgraded from stock 16's to TT's (17's) and I found the ride to immediately be harsher.
Having said that, the previous posters are correct, it depends on a buncha factors, tires being an important one. My fronts are Goodyears with 80%ish tread on it, while my rears are completely done.

Thanks 2turboz . I found a decent deal of 18's on Craigslist don't remember the tire manufacture but I remember when I went from original 20 to 22's on my wife new navigator the ride was horrible even with the michelins had to go back to 20's. I guess for 500 bucks what do you got to lose if I don't like em resell em. lol

I've got 20's under mine, so far everyone who has been in my car says its an insanely smooth and comfortable ride. I would hope so for $1000 tires....

From what I've heard new control arm bushings help a lot, a thicker tire definitely helps. I got 20's and my ride is pretty rough, but the tires are very low profiles so that's just how it is right now on New York's roads which are pretty awful. Going to grab 18's with thicker tires and hope it fixes the problem. If it's still rough I'll get new control arm bushings.

18's or bust man. The cars too big for 17's. Most of your ride quallity will come from spring rate, not wheel choice. The other factor is how much sidewall you have. More sidewall, softer ride as well. I've got 40 series on mine. It's not too bad at all.

NEWS UPDATE: i bought the 18's this morning which had the yokahamas on it. Now compared to my bald and cheap tires it did drive a little smoother. Very satisfied I was expecting to feel every bump on the road and I didn't, it feels great and looks great. 245/40/18 was the tire size & these baby's arent cheap either. So the only factor that I see are the tires . thanks again every one for your input.
