How to improve window performance
Several weeks ago my son I were worried that we were going to incur a major expense in repairing his window as it was going S-L-O-W-L-Y up and seemed to hang. Pulling the door panel off and examining everything seemed to yield nothing. The plastic guide tabs appeared intact, so we just put a little bit of white lithium grease on the guide to let it glide more smoothly. This did nothing really.
My only thought now was that the window was hanging somewhere that was sight-unseen. As I was earlier reconditioning some of the weatherstripping with silicone spray, the can was sitting nearby and I decided to spray some along the guides/slots (as you face the outside of the door) with the window down. After spraying a little bit and then depressing the power window button, the window glided up as it were on greased rails. I couldn't believe it! I generously sprayed some all along the groove and the window continues to work well.
I am now thinking that these window actuators are going bad because the outside guides do not remain clean and lubricated. While this might not be the fix for everyone (those with faulty or broken actuators), a shot of silicone spray did the trick for us. Good luck.
Now to the next project...
