Default openning door without a door handle...

i have a 94 sc400 and the door is stuck, the inside handle doesnt do ****, and the outside handle doesnt either, when u pull on the handle's u can tell something is messed up because its very light and feels like there is no "spring action"...what can i do to get the door open so i can get the door panel off?
BTW: the window doesn't roll down all the way if that helps at all.
Thanks a lot

Default door handle prob?

you will need to take the inside door panel off..to see the problem
i have a 92 sc400...had a similar prob..windows wouldnt go dwn etc.. take panel off and you will see that where the dooer handle is there is a rod there that sits in the door handle..this rod cause the "spring action" the problem will be the rod has come out of its plastic holder..i had a worn out plastic holder..this is what the rod sits in. shouldnt cost much to get the plastic holder.

i dont know how you will open the door to get the panel off though?!

the rod thats fallen out is probably fallen in the middle of the window track...thats why it wont go down...check the rod too,it may be slightly bent... from u trying to put the window down
this was my problem though....urs mayb diff? but check it out, its probably a similar prob.. let us knw how u get on

94BlackSC4,

Call a locksmith/tow truck and they may be able to slim the release mechanism to release the door. Otherwise, you will need to pull the door interior off enough to get your hand inside to release the latch. There are only 2 screws that are unreachable.

Chairmnofthbord,

Xavier, it seems like you are an experience tech, but does these cars have all these problems? The more I read about these problems, the more I am scared...but I guess I will deal with it when the problem comes lol.

Default kinda

you have to keep in mind, most of these cars are high miled, driven hard, and pushin 10 years of age, but keep in mind the're very few major mechanical problems (engine, trans). alot of the these problems are small annoying problems, if you keep your cars up well you wont have most these problems.

whats the saying, "an ounce of maintanace is worth a pound in repair" something like that

I have the same problem with BOTH of my doors!!
The driver side stopped working and the very next day the passenger side quit working!

The outside door handle will not work on passenger and driver side.
I have to leave my driver side window cracked so I can open it from the inside.
Both windows stick at about 3/4 of the way down, same old story that I've read on these threads.

To make matters worse, my son snapped the inside passenger handle, so now I have to replace
that too.

I'm guessing I need to follow some instructions that were detailed above on similar problems.

Does anyone know of a website or have a diagram on how to take off the door panels?

THX,

Todd

Exclamation Don't roll the windows down

this explains how to remove the door panel pictures included http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremov...sSC300FSpk.htm with this problem you have to resist the urge to roll your windows down ...the reason that they are not going down is because the door lock rods have become disconnected from the plastic bushing which has broken (5.00 part) however if you continue to roll the windows down the rods will bend, weaken and break making it a 400.00 repair instead ...on another subject this highlights the need for a FAQ section since I know i have explained this problem in a previous post

MW,

I think there are three more screws that will be unreachable, the ones at the bottom of the door panel.

Default '92 SC400 Door-o-rama: Part II

O.K.!!

I got the door panel off on the driver side no problem. Thanks for the link!

The plastic connector that connects the steel rod to the outer door handle is
in fact broken. I found it at the bottom of the door cavity.

Does anyone know where I can purchase this item?
I also need a passenger-side, inside door handle.

Thanks

Todd
