Default sc headlights poor

Is it me or or does the lighting on the sc's suck. First I just had the oem lightbulbs and the range really sucked. So next I got hid's 9006 6000k it is a little better but not much. I don't understand the electrical aspect of it all but could it be that the car just doesn't give out enough power or is it the way our headlights are setup. This is my third sc and they were all this way.

Tear them apart and buff the lens. Thats more than likely your problem.

Did already just seems like they don't get as bright as other cars could it be the size or shape of the lense. Granted I our cars are twetny years old but I was just noticing when I drove a friends impala 2010 model I turned on the headlights and it was as bright as when I turn on my hi beams and the the line of site was way wider. I know its newer but what I'm asking is do you think his bulb is brigher or car putting out more power? Ithought all cars are 12v

I think it is due to the size of the bulb displacement itself, or the housing that the bulb goes in. Look how small ours our compared to say my wife's new Camry. Hers is brighter, even with the same LEDS, brand and output number.

OEM headlight bulbs suck. They are awful. The lenses and projector glass I think are decent with a plug-n-play HID kit. I run a Phillips 4200K HID PnP kit using the stock bulb housings and restored exterior lenses and they are very good. Not perfect but acceptable to the point I don't think about it any longer.

I've read that 98+ headlights are slightly improved in the OEM projector lenses but I can't confirm this. Best solution is to custom retrofit an entire HID system including the projectors.

Our OEM projector was designed over 20 years ago. It is no match against modern car's headlight output. Instead of increasing the wattage while using outdated projectors with plug and play HID's, look into retrofitting with current projectors such as FX-R or TSX.

Here's a good link to get you started:

Ok I appreciate it because I hate when you're driving at night you already concentrating harder because its dark but with the sc400 lenses you have add a little more to that because its so dim. Also how do u aim them correctly are they supposed to be aimed at the street or straight ahead? I can't tell cause other cars light up both! Lol

A way to help, at least it did for me, was to also install HID's in the fog lights. They are super bright. Both of mine are 35 watts too. If you dont have fogs, then convert the turn signal ones to them.

sand/buff the oxidation out from the headlights. level out the headlight so that it shines directly in front of the car instead like a lazy eye. I use eBay's Xentec or whatever they call it 6000K HIDs. it's decent but definitely not the best.

My car had ebay H1 Halo Projector headlights when i got it, Couldn't see a thing. I just refinished, then installed used stock headlights then went with 6000K HID's.
It is like night and day for me.
4300K are actually supposed to have the brightest white light of all. You might try those out.
The retrofit is the REAL solution of course.

I think these were the first projectors in the US. If not it was pretty damn close. The 3000GT/Stealth got them in 1994 and I loved those too -- projectors for high beam as well.

Dropping HIDs into my former 05 Legacy GT's halogen projectors resulted in a 99% good-as-OEM solution, with a perfect pattern. That's what 15+ years in optics will do for ya though. I have HIDs in my SC and they're way better than the halogen bulbs were but not like modern projectors can do. They're adequate though and the high beams don't lack at all so I'm ok.
