It's been done, i know jgdynamics is currently running a set, looked even better in person than in pics.
I'm sure their reasoning was a mixture of traction, inner clearance (for the fronts, at least), and to make the car stand out.

That's the same style fender I'm planning on running on my sc (with the exception of the flares) once my over fenders come bAck to me. I love the jgtc style lol I'm just gonna cut and flare my stock fenders.
