Default '93 SC300 stereo mod -- add auxiliary

My SC300 has the factory (Nakamichi?) stereo. For years I used the traditional, but sorry sounding cassette adapter to play my ipod. Recently the cassette player broke. I have no need for it, except as I have been using it. I'd rather not pay to repair it, assuming it could be repaired, for this limited and less than satisfactory purpose. I know others have added an auxiliary port to the face of the head. If that could be done at a car stereo installation place, I would do that. But I don't want to do anything that could ruin the system. From what I recall reading, you want to keep this system if you can because of its quality.

Can this be done safely? And if its not clear, I know very little about electronics and would never attempt to tinker on the stereo myself.

Thanks

Perhaps it's time to buy a new receiver?

If you want something cheap...

Last time I had a radio installed was by PC Richards, the guy was real cool, and did it for $40(I had the install kit as well). Now I'm not sure they would charge $40 for this car, but go get a quote.

Personally I'd spend a bit more on a receiver, I'm going to get this in a couple weeks.

There are also FM transmitters that you use like the tape adapter. It might not work too good though if you have a lot of radio stations near you.

If you really want to use the Ipod you don't have many options with the stock stereo.
