Seems like a great engine that lasts forever. Does anyone know why Lexus decided to do away with this engine?

Prolly to keep up with the other major manufactures of the game... More liters mean more power, what sells is HP to the human eyes, these days, IMO...

It got replaced by the 2GR essentially.

Newer technology, more power, better gas mileage. Keeping up with the times :/

Around 20 mpg doesn't sit well with today's buyer. It's an awesome engine...for tuners.

They gor new engineers sadly. The company that was designing these motors now work cor Hyundai. Thats y all fhe new is cars have to replace pisrons and rings after a few thousand miles. I was at lexus two day ago and wdnt to see my friend who is a tech fhere and they had 8 engines on stands replacing pistons and rings. They messed up letting the engineers go.

Yes, BMW has gotten their inline 6 to the point where the 3 series is getting over 30 on the highway. That is a great engine they have there.

When 3uz gets better gas mileage in a 5000lbs Ls then a 2jz in a 3500 lbs sc that's a problem . 2jz is a boat anchor nothing more nothing less , it's very underpowered , heavy , expensive to make and not fuel efficient .

This was very painfull to read . The 3.5/2.5 has direct Injection . Many companies that have that technology suffer from excessive carbon build up. Also the 3.5 had valve spring problems but only the earlier years . Since 09 they have Adressed majority of the problems with these engines .

Tell us what you really think bro... Wow.
I understand your point, although Isn't the LS400 a family sedan... whereas the SC300 is a sport coupe? Also the 1UZ-FE was used in the LS400 up until 2000, it was rated for 23 mpg highway 17 mpg city. 2JZ-GE SC's could expect to get 18/23 mpg and a rated 225 hp( although my stock 2jz is probably around 170 hp on a good day) and 1uz Ls400 a rated 250hp( so 200hp on a good day?) LS400 1UZ-FE does 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, sc300 2jz-ge 6.8.... So again the 2jz was put in cars for the decent performance, not fuel economy, yet the family sedan was built for fuel economy and not so much performance...

The GS300 with the 2jz does 0-60 in 9.1 seconds, 17/23 mpg, weight- 4,600, 227 Hp, 210 TQ
The IS300 also 2jz does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, 16/21 mpg, weight- 3,250, 215 HP, 218 TQ
The SC300 also 2jz does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds, 18/23 mpg, weight 3,500, 225 HP, 210 TQ
The Supra base 2jz does 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, 16/23 mpg, weight 3,200, 220 HP, 210 TQ
The Supra 2jz-gte does 0-60 in 5.0 seconds, 16/22 mpg, weight 3,200, 320 HP, 315 TQ

The 2JZ 1991-2005
The 1UZ 1989-2000
The 3UZ 2000-2006

Think about this, when the 2JZ was being produced and put in these vehicles, The cars were expensive and gas prices were LOW, so the people buying these cars probably had a decent amount money and didn't care about gas prices or fuel efficiency. In 2000 when the 3UZ came out, gas prices were on the rise and now fuel efficiency was a concern. At the same time emission laws were getting harder and now if you wanna build a car thats going to sell it has the have, performance, and fuel economy--hence the 3rd generation UZ motor. Back when the 2JZ was being produced the car needed to look nice and be decently quick.

In my opinion, the 2JZ was a balanced motor with a lot of potential.
Just my 2 cents.

i have to give the 2j series credit for producing some serious hp on peoples builds but.......stock they are nothing to brag about, lexus doesnt care about their boost potential , it doesnt concern them.

edit,, the gte is impresive stock but i was reffering to the normal ge's
