I think it depends on the color. I put white neon under my white Eclipse back in 1992. It cost like a grand but it looked really good. It was functional as well as eye-catching since it worked as a puddle light too. Cops couldn't bother me because the bulbs weren't visible and the color was white which is allowed on any vehicle.
Green or purple is more rice, and it's just so old. That was twenty years ago. We haven't brought back the fuzzy dice yet. Not only did the FnF movie kill neon for good, it was already old even then.
I can see a strip of LEDs as auxiliary lighting though.

I say do it especially if it comes out close to the pictures. I rather be on the front end of a trend they bandwagoning because now everyone else says something else is cool or not.
