Default Oil Pressure Gauge (Install)

I'm thinking about installing a AEM oil pressure gauge guys. Anybody have one of these installed on there NA/T ? Would you just replace the factory sending unit with the AEM sending unit ?

Any answers would be appreciated.

This might belong more in the engine thread...

Not sure what the AEM pressure sender thread is (probably 1/8" NPT) but IIRC it won't directly replace the factory sender, due to different thread pitch.

You could use the union bolt from a Supra to install an aftermarket sender, or drill/tap your current union bolt to do the same. I used the union bolt method on my car, pretty easy to swap out and install since it's on the intake side of the engine... it looks like this:

Raine,

I'd like to be able to keep the factory sending unit along with adding the other one. Do you think that's possible ?

I used the AEM oil sending unit on the intake side of the motor under the manifold, just above the AC compressor. Removed the factory one.

I don't know if you can use both. Sorry I couldn't help you much more. I am thinking the same is for both 1JZ and the 2JZ N/A or GTE. I might be wrong.

1jz,

Did the aem just screw in where the factory sending unit went or did you need an adapter?

Thanks,
Shane

The supra bolt works great. Takes a huge socket. If u want u can also just buy a sandwich adapter and then u can add a temp sensor later.

I had to use the 02 sensor socket to remove the factory sensor above the AC compressor. It was size 5/8. I used the AEM supplied sensor, no other piece needed. Screwed right in....

I actually told you wrong... This is also what you need to extend it past the AC compressor. Also it was a 7/8 socket. Enjoy the old pictures... Dug them up through my thread...

1jz,

Thanks for answering all my questions. This will be last one bro. When you unplugged factory sensor did it cause any issues like the low oil light on the dash or anything?

Thanks,

Shane

It did. You need to unplug the bulb behind the cluster that is not next to the trac light on the rpm side. If this makes sense. I want to say it is the one just above the odo reset in the right hand corner. If i remember correctly.

That's how mine is, I left the factory stuff alone and added the aftermarket oil pressure sender using the union bolt; actually, I have both an oil presure sender + oil temperature sender, connected to the union bolt with a T-fitting - no extension hose needed, it all fits down there next to the oil filter with ample clearance.

That is another option on the install. I think I chose the hardest one to do. Mine install had no leaks and has performed great so far.
