Default 96 sc400 valve cover gasket replacement PRICE. Need help.

I am a newbie dependednt on mechanics. I have a oil leak at my valve cover gasket on my
96 sc400. My mechanic wants to charge 2 gaskets$35.89x2=$71.78 + $299 valve cover gasket
Total for the job is $370.78 + tax.......just for a oil leak. I am sure the dealer is more.....but this seems high. Any thoughts?

Not really.. You can do it yourself. The passenger side is a bit more tedious, but you can do it with simple tools.

Mech shops charge a ton for labor, if you have a friend or family member that is handy with cars find a way to get them to help walk you through it and learn from it (ex. I bring my dad a case of beer and he knows we're fixing something)

Nah, don't do ittt. That's expensive as hell. I think the lex dealer would charger the same. If btoh sides are leaking, then I suggest you take it to a mechancic, but not this one. If its only the drivers side then please save yourself the $300 and do it yourself. I did it in an hour. Its not hard at all.
If its the drivers side let me know and ill talk you through it in a private message.

Holy crap thats more than I ever got quoted. The most I got quoted was 120 for labor which I still found unfair. However I've been studying and have it on my DIY-list. There are great pictorial write ups on how to do it yourself.

i dont know man if u dont have any experiance its dangerous to start messing around in the engine bay,,im just saying be careful, one thing ive realized is that hardly anything on the SC is an easy job.

Im scared to do the tune up myself tbh.
