i think 1800$ for the rust repair and paint is pretty fair, im sure you feel great aboout having a rust free car now.

Im very glad I know a bit about body work ive saved myself ton over the years, helps offset some of the costs for my mechanical repairs.

I just did my rear quarter panel, front fenders, and multiple dings on the trunk and body,

I thought he was quoted at $7000? I was thinking it cost $1800 for paint and clears, I'm not sure on this colour but a close friend works in a high end body shop and some paints cost thousands just in raw materials. But like wise *****, I'm glad that I can do all the prep myself and just drop the car off for a shoot and sand

The whole job cost $10,800 with parts, labour and paint. The point I was making was the paint cost $275 a pint.

I tried to find a car with a better body but couldn't at a low enough price. Here in western Canada these cars are very rare in good shape and people want $5000 to $12000 for them. Another problem I have here is most auto body shops won't do rust repair. There is only 3 that will do rust repair, one that all my buddies take their muscle car restorations to has a 3 year waiting list, and they are expensive. I do have the car appraised for $10,800 and my insurance company will cover that.
I'm an older guy that always love these car and know this cars complete history and want to bring it back to new condition so I can cruise in it on summer days with my main squeeze.

Hey great restoration bro...and definitely a smart move with getting it appraised! As far as what you've paid, it all depends on location IMO. Areas where there is competition with doing this type of restoration will have lower prices, while other areas that don't have to worry about price matching (per say) can charge higher. Hey, it's water under the bridge now and as long as you're happy-this is all that matters at the end of the day!

I think this has got to be my favorite quote:

I'm an older guy that always love these car and know this cars complete history and want to bring it back to new condition so I can cruise in it on summer days with my main squeeze.

Much respect to your Sir! Now bring on the summer months, and take her out for a cruise with your main squeeze!

thx for sharing,

steve
