Last night a turbocharged BMW pulled up next to me and he said "That's a fresh-a** exhaust isn't it?" I said, "Yeah, it's brand new..." He said he could tell; that it sounded new. I was wondering how can you tell? Any exhaust I've had on other cars has sounded the same (IMO) from when I installed it, or later on (and I had an HKS Carbon Ti).
What's a "new" exhaust sound like?

Their is no difference.... he prolly saw how shiny it was and heard it was nice.

Theres no way to really tell from it being the first time hearing it, but exhaust definetly sounds different new vs broken in depending on what style muffler and resonators your using.

but yeah, he probably just seen how new it was.

I thought so. I currently have a Fujitsubo: Legalis-R, and it "is" both good-looking, and sounding, but I thought maybe it's clearer (a bit louder)? I figured that perhaps having residue built-up inside, like a broken-in exhaust, results in a lower (more throaty) sound. I dunno; I always assume people know something I don't, and having a relatively new Turbocharged BMW w/ a sick Blow-Off Valve, this guy might be more experienced with cars than I am.
