$10.00 DIY Steering Wheel Repair
Tired of looking at my steering wheel and in the process of fixing everything else up so went with an old trick I used on one of my previous cars years ago that held up fine.
This will work for anyone who has damaged leather on the steering wheel.
Just get some body filler, a few sheets of sandpaper, 80, 220, 320, 400 and a little laquer thinner to clean. I used some leather paint from a leather touch up kit I had but i think most people will go with that SEM plastic paint stuff and that should be fine.
just make sure u sand and prep properly and it will hold fine,
of course id rather buy a new updated wheel but this is good for anyone trying to save money or just improve things for the meantime.
heres the before and after , cost me less then ten bucks and im happy with it.

it matches with the dash and doors actually pretty good, the seats not so much .
but basically the point is that you can salvage the wheel instead of buying a new one, really doesnt matter how bad of shape its in.
oh and its just a generic tan or beige from a leather repair kit.

lol yea man I know what u mean, this repair isnt going to get much praises but i posted it becaus i know alot of us have worn steering wheels and this really is a really cheap but effective repair. If ou wanted to get technical about i ou shold use vinyl filler specfically made for leather repairs, bt i really dnt thnk its necessary.
improved the look of my wheel by 1000% IMO so i am happy with it, and it will last for quite a while.

Looks good, but how long does it last?
Will it fade in the spot you most often hold your hand, or simply from rubbing?
If not, then it's awesome, I'd do the whole wheel like that to match the rest, however if it does, then its gonna look even worse when the "rash" occurs.

The color is actually the same tan and brown that is stock in my SC. I just did two tone to change it up. As you can see the center of all the seats, arm rests, and center glove box cover are all in the dark brown and also the piping. The rest is tan leather. I did the upgrade so NO VINYL here! All Leather. Maybe you can see it better in these pics. I have been really happy with it. The only problem has been the wear and tear of getting in and out of the front seat on the left bolster. I plan on taking it apart and sending it back to them for repair. I found that making my seat go all the way back and reclining it before I get out helps with that a lot. I just set the number 2 memory button for that. Makes it simple. It gets the seat out of the way to get in and out.
