Passenger Window is slow | 1992 SC400
My passenger window in my SC400 is slow, on one occasion it stopped completely and moments later managed to roll up all the way, i guess by letting it rest for a few. It's been like this for a few years and only gets worse.
I was going to buy the whole assembly on Ebay and then hire a mechanic to install the used parts from a reputable seller, I'm not savvy with fixing cars. Over the past year I keep coming to this forum for research and thought I'd sign up and ask what you think I should do before pursuing the aforementioned.
I did try searching 'slow window' and 'slow window motor', the results were mostly about installation but not mentioning my specific symptoms.
Thanks for reading and your time.

the window mmotor could be the cause but you can make the process a little easier for your window to go up and down before you pay for a whole new setup.
go out and buy some silicon spray and spray it on the rollers and the 'rails' of the assembly. over time the rubber gets soft and causes the window to go up slow, silicon will layer itself on the rollers and rails and make for a faster window.

Thanks iridebmx! I have a mechanic fixing the door handle pretty soon, I'll ask him to do that for while the door is opened up. I assume the door needs to be open (partially disassembled) to try the fix you mentioned.
Is there a thread at the forums here that recommends a mechanic for Luxus cars in a specific area by chance? Both mechanics I've gone to have always got the job done with my requests, but never perfectly.

It's either the motor or the regulator, most likely the regulator. My last few old Toyota's have had slow windows. With my last Soarer and Cresta I pulled everything apart - door panel off, pulled window, cleaned and lubed the regulator, and also cleaned and lubed all the rubbers with canola oil. It made a world of a difference.

Interesting.. I have this same symptom with my passenger window.
The window is also unusually loud while it goes up and down (well, compared to other cars). It's very un-luxury like. Any idea if the silicon spray will have any affect on this as well?

this is the stuff, or something similar brand wise. just try it out and see.
i don't have a guide showing how to do it. just take off you door panel and basically spray anything that has moving parts on it. maybe try cleaning dust and what not first.

I wonder if this would fix the wind noise I'm having from my sunroof as well? Might give it a try and see..

Late reply. sorry. The silicone spray only helped the window, enough to notice. My mechanic sprayed it for me, we noticed it helped, but overall I do need to replace the part for the window to work quickly. Either way, it had been working better than when I originally posted... it's been months since, definitely worth it.

I pulled the rubber strips out of the car and tossed them to eliminate this problem on both my windows. works perfectly now. Problem now is I have a 1" gap between door and window but its hardly noticeable

Funny for me to see this thread. I actually just started having slow window issues and noticed it was the window trim. Was going to buy some silicone spray to coat them too, lol.
