The value of the 1992's have dramatically increased... I know it depends on the market but for the pristine condition and mileage, I would buy it and ever look back. Take it from someone who has had 3 SC400's. Post some pictures of it and let us see! GL on your choice.

I say the same thing on all threads like this:
It's worth the $6k for the things you won't have to buy. You don't need interior panels, seats, or new paint. Belts and hoses are easy to do in these cars. There isn't any weird operating condition you have to diagnose. You get to simply buy the car and enjoy it.
I doubt you'd find any other car for $6k that you'd enjoy more.
The non-VVTi 400s are non-interference so if the T-belt did break it wouldn't harm anything else.

I have a 92 and that one is a little cleaner than mine. Jump on that deal....really.
About that valve timing belt: They are to be changed out every 100K(?)....right? Thing is they are to be changed out on a time interval, as well. But, the fine print says that they are to be inspected every year and if they aren't cracked they are good for another 10K or year. I changed mine at 120 and it was pristine. Did you know that if one fails it takes out both heads? Verify that as I think that might not be true. If the valves have head clearance when the crank is turning and the cam isn't then I would drive it till it failed. Tow it home on the insurance and change the belt in the driveway. But check into it for sure and don't forget IO got conflicting stories. Did mine 8 years ago so I forgot some of the "story".
I did mine myself
John.

Point taken. Thanks for everyone's feedback on this. I will press him Monday to close the deal if it checks out. I researched all weekend, so I have a good idea of what I'm getting into now at least. I have a sneaking suspicion that his son will throw a fit that he's selling it, so we'll see if he's still interested tomorrow I asked him to drive it to work again on Monday so I could give it the once over and make the offer.

Looks good. You will definitely like it better than the FJ40 for commuting. Much better fuel usage. I can get an easy 27 mpg on the hwy. BTW my other car is also a LX 450 (slee offroad 6" lift, 4.88 gears, lockers, supercharged, 35" tires, snorkel, armored all the way round etc etc), lol.

I'm driving the SC at lunch and I'll post up more pics of the engine and interior.
