How hard can I drive this car?
So lately since I got this lexus, I have been driving like a elderly grandpa.
Been usually keeping the engine around 1.2-1.75k. Couple times shes been up to around 2.5k or so to try to get up with traffic.
I have never owned a V8 let alone a Lexus, so
My question is, will this engine handle 3k- 3.5k regular shifts. Pretty much the target RPM I want to be driving this car, as it is a sports car in my view.
Can the transmission handle this stress???
I do not burn out, as I know that is very very stressful on a engine, and I don't even do 1st gear pulls.
Just wondering how this platform reacts. Thanks.
Car is a 1997 SC400 Auto. 172k.

Redline it! LOL Seriously though, the transmissions on these cars are bulletproof! One of the toughest ever built! Only reason they fail is, because people don't do proper maintenance, so I guess, check out your maintenance records first, do the whole 9 yards, then you can be rest assured your **** is straight.

Beat the living snot out of it. Just do it. It will come back asking for more for many many years.
Driving it like a grandpa (or grandma) will be less strain on the drivetrain but with certain cars on here exceeding 400,000 miles on the odometer and still running strong (even one example exceeding 600,000 miles!), I highly doubt you can cause that much premature wear from reving it to 3500 rpm.
Next time you line up at that red light, just go for it. Floor it. In first. And just smile and enjoy the smooth wave of power.

As long as you aren't an idiot, don't rev the engine to a high RPM range when cold, and regularly maintain these cars, they are very strong and durable. Just don't go thrashing it constantly and you're fine.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying your car, but please for the love of all that is holy...just be safe!
With that being said...Toyotas (Lexus) are very durable and can take a good thrashing. Just keep up on the maintenance and they will give you many many many years of fun driving. Just don't be an idiot and you'll go far.

Who is teaching people to drive these days? I can't imagine trying to keep a DOHC engine at or below 3k. This isn't a diesel, or a 1938 Ford V8. Anywhere on the tach that isn't red is ok to drive in. WOT is an acceptable operating condition for any engine. You aren't going to break it by standing on it in first gear - or any gear for that matter.
The pushrod Hemi in my truck shifts after 6k rpm so the Lexus engine is more than capable of doing the same thing.

Man guys, you need to understand, I was into DSM's before this, them cars break ALL THE TIME, I swear to god, everything goes wrong. YOu drive it one day and wrench the next. YOu name it, it broke on a DSM.

No more explanation needed. I understand completely. I had a friend tell me that his buddy bought a DSM. I told him to not get attached because that car wouldn't last long. THAT NIGHT on the highway he had a dash fire.
