Default SC300/400 Buyers Guide?

Hey guys, noobatron here.

Started shopping around for an SC and just wanted to here from the experts what are some trouble spots to look for before purchasing one or negotiating the price accordingly? I'm not a noob to cars at all. I've owned several Evos and 240SXs, so I am quite handy. Actually I already searched the forum for any threads about trouble spots but did not find anything so if anyone has a link to another thread, that would be great as well.

I've already read on here that the LCA ball joints are very expensive to replace because you have to buy and replace the LCA itself. What are the tell tale signs of a ball joint that is going out? Also, how can you tell if its the bushings or the ball joint that is bad?

Currently I am looking at an SC300 in which the owner has already said that it sometimes makes a creaking noise when turning the wheel. It is about 300 miles away from where I live so I just want to be sure before I travel there that I will be able to tell if it is the bushings, ball joints or something else entirely. Thanks so much!

You are going to get hammered on this thread.. lol...

popping door hinges
blackened LCD
popping from struts
popping from upper and lower, front and rear control arms
upper window trim cracks, both sides
gauge needles flickering or INOP
INOP cd changer and radio, Nak or Pioneer edition
I am sure they are more.

They are all easy fixes except the burning ot of the stock bushings and the install of the new ones. Not too terrible, but doable if you have time or patience. Also TT or 93.5-98 Supra are also direct bolt ons replacements.

Welcome to CL, they are several threads on this.. again Welcome

Hammered for what? For inquiring about information on a automotive forum that was made for discussing and providing information about this particular car?

Makes sense

Everything I have read is cluttered about the forum, not one general thread or at least that I found. If so please link it to me.

hammered for not searching the 3rd most talked about subject on these forums (1st is rimzzzzzzz (I ****ing hate that word; it's wheels, unless you're talking about a 3-piece wheel, then rim is PART of the wheel, not the whole thing!!!!111one), 2nd is turbo info, 3rd is "new" car info).

you said you've owned evo's... why not spend more money for a well maintain documented SC? which the one your talking about doesn't seem so and it sounds kinda like its starting to have problems and thats why its being sold i wouldnt buy it/look at it personally just on the fact he hears a problem but doesnt bother looking further into the problem

See, now my lazy *** didn't have to do anything. Thanks kaydee, unless of course all those threads have members *****ing about how its already been answered 20 times and to use the search button and ZOMG BBQ!?!?!?!!?!?

Just always wanted an SC, but yeah may have to shell out the extra dough and get a low mileage one. Just seems like a waste since they are so overpriced. It is what it is.

I'm mainly more concerned about the LCAs and how to tell if the ball joints are bad, but figured I'd make it a generic thread anyways.
