thats the first thing i noticed out of place too, does anyone have more info on that stuff? or the reasoning behind using 10w50. Seems awful thick being a 50 weight but they seem to know their stuff.
i love the chasers i will have one someday!!!
also anyone notice how sticky the 4thish to last pics front tires are? picked up all the gravel and it stayed there. jeez they have all the cool stuff in japan

It was explained to me that the W rating of the oil is the viscosity, and the second number is the protection rating.
So the 10w50 has a weight of 10, that protects as a 50. Correct me if I'm wrong.

the second number is the viscosity of the oil at running temperatures, hence why it seems a bit thick but they probably know something i dont or maybe turbo cars require that thickness

So a 5W40 oil is one which behaves like a 5-rated single grade oil when cold, but doesn't thin any more than a 40-rated single grade oil when hot. The lower the 'winter' number (hence the 'W'), the easier the engine will turn over when starting in cold climates.
In any event, I ran lubro moly 10/50 in my old 1j cresta beat down unit. Worked well, oil pressures were consistent etc. Expencive though. Like that HKS stuff, liquid gold.
OP have you been to one of the Vertex / t&e shops yet?

lol no..... the first number is the cold start rating and if im not mistaken W stands for winter.

What I'd really like to do is buy a jug of the stuff and get a used oil analysis done on it to see how it stacks up against other ester-based synthetics (Motul comes to mind). However, at ~$150 seems like a pricey experiment.
Allot of them run the cooling rescue system which allows more airflow into the radiator as well as any cooling mod you can think of.
The pics dont show it but every single 1jz/2j was set-up the same way cooling wise. Catch cans and oil filter relocation kits.
