this was the best spot for this thread that i could see but if not feel free to relocate


So i picked up a 95 sc400 a couple of days ago its got a straightish body, the interior needs work and i think one of the wheel bearings is going in the rear of the car (not sure as i have been too busy to investigate this suspicion). after driving to and from work the last couple of days (to and from work is probably less than 1/2 mile) i got back in my s chassis and was relieved/relaxed. the car never felt so nimble i wanted something a little nicer than the s14 that i have currently but think i may have gone in the wrong direction. This thing drives similar to a 87 caprice, its retarded, the ride is smooth as all get out but is that is not really a characteristic i was looking for. In fact it was quite, the opposite i want to feel the road. i do understand it is a 95 and has some years on it but i know no toyota or lexus people to reference the car with. Questions : are these cars more luxury than sport car? am i going to have to do all poly bushings to get that feel? is the steering supposed to be super light and with minimal feedback? I love the way the cars look and a large portion of the ones i see on the forum here look amazing and im sure are fast in straight lines, but what does it take to get these little tanks to feel responsive. i would also like to meet some people in austin that have modified sc's that could possibly renew my faith in this chassis, at this point i think this is a little more cushion than i wanted in my car. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks ahead of time!

Yes, the car is more luxury than sport, It is a "Lexus" you know.

The SC is a cruiser that was originally meant for mature drivers that wanted a smooth,quiet and comfortable ride all around with a tiny bit of sports performance thrown in for good measure in case it needed to be used.

Perhaps to SC isn't for you...Go back to your S-chassis, If you think the SC sucks LOL! Just kidding!

if you dont lik the feel, pickup some TT LCA's as well as some stiff coilovers. maybe a sway bar or strut in there as well an u have a completely different feeling car. Alot more sportier to say the least.

ive noticed that, when riding on stock wheels, my sc feels completely different than when imriding on my 20's. completely different. riding on stocks is like driving a cadillac.

i felt the same way coming from my 240 than to my sc400.... when i first bought the car i tried selling/trading it for another 240.

put some coilovers on the SC than make up your mind.... it changed mine.

soft steering with minimal response could be 2 things. Either tire profile (throw some 18's and good tires on it), or steering rack bushings. Im on coilovers, 19's stretched and i have delrin bushings. My rack bushings went out and it handled like poop in a turn. I replaced em and boom...awesome again. I can easily push in turns 20+ mph more than posted one handed while drinking water.

Sounds like your car needs a lil TLC. I would inspect bushings and ball joints! Go from there and enjoy...

With coilovers and wide sticky wheels/tires, it'll drive completely different. Still drives like a heavy car though. It'd be night and day.

It's funny, cause I actually wanted the smoother ride.

I had a G20 with the sport suspension before, and it damn near killed me on my semi-monthly trips to Atlanta. Too much construction and uneven roads- now I feel like I'm driving a cloud.

I'll change out the rims eventually and add some coilovers; I'm just along for the ride right now, literally.

Mine came with suspension done Its not too stiff (tokico and kyb). It feels pretty smooth still and handles like its on rails. Id agree with everyone else just redo the suspension then you will "feel the road" .

as said above. TT LCAs, sway bars, and stiffer suspension, and it'll feel loads better. still not quite an s14 but better.

i miss my s14 :-P
