Default Ticking/"thumping" noise for sc300s

hey guys. i have a 95 gs300 and i posting this here for more traffic and maybe someone has had this problem before. plus is basicly the same engine/trans/driveline.

the engine is hot, trans is warmed up. Any kind of weather. I can be in any gear. but at about 2000-2300rpm SOMETIMES i hear a thump/fast rapping type noise. almost like someone put a zip-tie on my driveshaft (already checked for that haha)
for example: if i put my car in first gear (low) and drive up to 3000rpm and let off and let engine braking take place, right as it passes 2300-2000 it will make the sound and its always the same frequency, never faster, never slower, but if i hold it at 2300-2000 while in gear the sound will get louder and then quite down but not go away. but i can do this in any gear. and the sound is coming from the right side of the trans tunnel but close to the firewall/bulk head.

has anyone ever had this problem?? i think it might be the torque converter, maybe. i hope thats all it is! but i get no lost of power, no weird jerking, everything is normal but for the sound.

update: i had it on the lift today and got it to do it while in air and the guy i work with said he couldnt hear anything from under the car(mind you im hold at about 2500rpms and i have an exhaust) but one he sat in the car he was like "holy **** thats crazy" hahaha. and we also found that my 2j does have some thrust play on the crank, but its not super crazy, but deffently not spec.

thanks guys!

first of all, why are you putting your trans in L (first gear) revving it that high and letting off? you shouldnt even be using low gear unless u r in snow or another slipping condition. does it do it if the car is in D (drive). it could be the cat shield which is cracked on my car. but if you continue to shift your transmission like it is a manual you will regret it. many a fool have blown auto transmissions up from shifting it like that. it may not be today, or even tomorrow but it WILL happen to you.

I hear it in every gear. Thats why I had it in L, jackwagon, so i verify the noise I'm hearing and I can control it alot better, I normally drive in D.
