Default Speedo & RPM not working sc400

So a few days ago the speedo and RPM meter stopped working. Everything else works fine and the dash still lights up, but the two just doesn't move.

Someone had told me it was the ignitor

looks like this

Try slapping the dash above the cluster. My 92 sc400 does the same thing and slapping the dash does the trick.

The speedo and tach needles have capacitors on the back of the cluster that help to power them. Pull your cluster and if the needles are good have all of the capacitors on each needle replaced at a local electronics repair shop. You could also DIY it if you are handy with a soldering iron.

slapping the dash didn't work for me btw, before I take out the capacitors I'm gonna try a new ignitor to see if that works.

x2

I have the same problem and I even switched the cluster to a better condition one. It worked for like 1 week or so and ended up with the same problem.

I don't know why people still quote the lighting fix for a digital australian soarer backlight (or occasionally some LS cathode needles), it's been 8 years since anyone posted it. (PS no they don't).

No such thing.

Speedo is controlled by the main chip, that's why there is no fix posted.

I had posted about this problem a while back and that was the fix that was given to me, I haven't got a chance to tear everything down yet to do something about it.

speedo has been fixed, RPM still isn't working.

some how both VSS #1 and #2 are both bad. I really don't know how both went bad at the same time, but I'm glad I got the speedo fixed. Now to figure out why the RPM isn't working.
