Electrical Fire :-( Car Totaled

When I first saw the picture that was the first thing I thought of as well. Defective HID's can be deadly. It's a rare case that they cause a serious fire, but it does happen. Then again it can also happen to factory HID's as well. I'm not sure if you guys heard about the Ashley Turton case. She owned a BMW X5 and the car caught on fire in her garage while she was inside and died.

This would be the thirdSC that I've heard of going up in smoke. The electrical system is suspect in these cars IMO. Grounding sux. Light dim when u apply the brakes, or roll up windows. Its definitely a part of these rides that can use upgrading.

my car doesnt dim or anything like that, I wonder what the person before you did to the wiring. If you use the factory wiring for the lights, those lines have like a 10amp fuse on them they will blow out long before the ignitor self destructs, now If you installed a relay kit and didnt wire it properly thats a different ballgame alltogether, if thats the case let us know.
I use the stock wiring and If you used the stock wiring they wouldn't catch fire with the car off, that doesnt even make any sense because there is no voltage when the car is off unless you did some super special wiring with the mentioned relay kit.
really the only dangerous things on that side are the chracoal canister and the hot cats.

Most all sC's that I've been around dim when you apply the brakes, or while the turn signal is on. Quickly in relationship to what ever is on. Its a split second type of deal. My car has all factory wiring. Its just 20 years old. Lol

My buddy's SC400 caught on fire after a 30-45 minute drive on the highway. Parked it up, minute later we saw smoke coming from the hood, popped the hood and a small fire was behind the engine closer to the firewall on the driver side.
We believed it was the cats.
Sorry to see your car caught on fire.

I say lets just straight pipe all the cats on these SC's, and try to eliminate the issue of the possible cat problems. I hate to hear about your loss. The breaking the windows is a straight forward thing on car fires. It lets the fire breath and will allow firefighters to see exactly where to apply water and avoid excess water damage to the vehicle. Just like ventilating a strcture, better visibility, and such..
