IMO, any Standalone would definitely be a major improvement over any piggyback!
AEM, Haltech, Pro EFI, Motec, etc.
Of course, the answer to your question mainly depends on the depth of your pockets.. If you're looking for value, bang for your buck, then the AEM/Haltech would be sufficient. However, if you're a baller then you might want the to step up to the Pro EFI/Motec big boy section..
Seriously, you can get Version 1 AEM all day for about a $1K and you'll be good to go..

I have talked this guy on the phone personally, I dont think he is going to short change anything on this motor or build. You all beat me to chime in on the answer. I agree any standalone will better than a piggyback.. I say Haltech, its expensive, but its the ****zel when it comes to tuning! Jay, good luck on your choice.

Here is what i have...
1994 Lexus sc300 Body
JDM R154 5 spd Trans
2JZ Block with all new forged internals (0 miles)
1JZ Head
Soarer Harness and ECU (No MAF!!)
AFC NEO for simple tuning

Dual Walboro 255 fuel pumps
Delphi 780cc injectors
Greddy Profec B II electronic boost controller
AEM Wideband
Auto Meter 30psi boost gauge
Turbo Timer
SC400 rear chunk for top end gearing
Spec stage 5 clutch
Its bored .40 over, je pistons, eagle rods, cleaves bearings, balanced at 9000rpms.
Im looking to drop $8000-$10000 in my stand alone, 67 billet dual ball bearing turbo, injectors, cams, and installation and tuning... any ideas for place to do the work? Ive contacted Carma in Nashville.
What you guys think?

It already had a 76mm, but its to big for a manual tranny. as far as the injectors go they r going bigger with this setup. the last owner choose this setup. I wanna put down atleast 600rwhp on pump gas...

I would start by contacting the local shop thats going to do the dyno tuning and see what they are more experienced with. Then make your decision from there. No point in buying a standalone if your local tuner has no clue how to use it.
On top of that, no one is going to beable to make the final decision for you. Your going to hear a different suggestion most of the time, but in the end its all going to be the same grab bag of options. As already stated, depends on how much you want to spend.
