Default Rust proof!

First of all, I’ve done all my searching and research and still have a few questions.

I’m leaving from California to Michigan for school and need advise on rust proofing my underbody.

Has anybody successfully done it themselves? If so, how?

And for those of you that pay a shop to do it, how much do you usually pay to get it done?

Any other useful advise on this subject just let me know.

I know a few people who have gone the DIY route and bought cans of bed/wheel well coatings, put the car on a lift and went to town spraying the underbody. Just something to consider if you find out that professional rust-proofing is outstandingly-priced.

Midwest salty roads WILL rust out the car quickly and destroy bushings etc very quickly, Get a cheap beater that is disposable which is what I did when I lived in IL.

Also "rust proof" will make it worse as it traps moisture and will eat the metal up that way, I lived in the midwest almost all my life and went to college for collision repair tech and I got to see first hand what happens to a car from just 1 winter in this crappy envirment.

I will never own a midwest car ever again!
