Okay, here's your chance at fame and fortune!! Well not really, but if you contribute to this FAQ, you will be credited . So here are some of the major topics for the SC300/400 FAQ that I just came up with. If I missed any, by all means add on. If you want to contribute information for the FAQ, please do so here also. We can also maturely and productively discuss and debate differences in people's info if it arises.

2) Differences between the SC300/400

3) Aftermarket potential for the SC300/400 (turbo kits, stroker kits, heads & cams, Getrag, GTE swap)

4) Common problems on the SC300/400 (PSP, gauge needles)

5) DIY fixes for common problems (pump ring replacement)

6) Aftermarket intakes

7) Aftermarket exhausts

8) Recommended vendors for the SC300/400 (Carson Toyota, Keyes)

9) Available bodykits for the SC300/400

10) Model year differences/changes for the SC300

11) Model year differences/changes for the SC400

12) DIY mods for the SC300/400 (clear corners, clear tail lights)

I think some we can add....but they are more specific.
How do I fix headlight condensation? (this might fit in #5)
What buttons should and should not be lit?
Can I change my taillights to that of another year SC?
Only one side of my seat is moving (theres a nice pic tutorial on this in archives), do I need a new seat assembly?
How do I get my cigarette lighter to start working again (only been asked a few times, I think everyone else doesnt particularly care if theirs dont work)

Worn transmission mount
Worn rear brakes
Worn front suspension bushings
Bad door hinges
Fogged/faded headlights
Leaking heater valve
Bad rear view mirror LCD function
Broken side mirror ECU
Skipping CD changer (almost unavoidable!)
Broken A/C display
Cracked dash vents (unavoidable)
Wind noise from sunroof

None of these are really tragic, just a little time and money to fix. You can really use them as bargaining power to drop the price though!

Hmm...trying to think what else.

Timing Belt-What parts are needed, when should it be replaced, how can it be checked (possibly along with an explanation of the whole interference v non interference explanation).

Water pump-same questions as above

Steering wheels...which are compatible with what...as well as maybe a link to the wood steering wheel thread of Manarays as we know that gets asked once every few weeks.

Wood shift ***** can be thrown in there too....the fact that there really are none for pre 98 models.

I think the number 1 FAQ to help CL out could be or should be..."How do I become a CL paid member?" Heck, I dont even know but Id like to.

Actually tell people like number 1A.....where the search function is and how to use it (should just about be self-explanatory).

Rim section....will 20s fit on an SC gets asked a few times. I think links to mjames08 posts would solve that question.

14) OEM wheel size for 1992 SC300 is 15", tires are 215/60-15. The factory wheel will also accept a 225/60-15, but that is the ONLY other tire size that will correctly fit the factory wheel (so I'm informed and so sez tirerack).

Power Steering Pump by lexcoupe94...

Replacing the Pump:

The pump brackets are mounted at about a 45 degree angle looking at the pump from the front. The outside bolt is higher. After you remove the airbox, overflow tank, pump reservoir and bracket, belt and pump pulley, and some type of vacuum valve on the passenger side of the motor, the side bolts can be removed. They are tough to see; you have to feel for them. I think they were 14mm. Then disconnect the high pressure hose and remove the two front bolts. You gotta pull the pulley off for access to the front bolts. I carefully pried the pump off with a crowbar by prying one side, then rotating the pulley 180 degrees and prying again. I would recommend using a puller, though-would be easier and safer.

Rebuilt pumps are available from PartsAmerica.com and AutoZone.com for reasonable prices.

Bleeding Air From P/S/ Pump:

Try this:
-Check power steering fluid level. Fill if necessary.
-Warm up the car 5 minutes or so to heat up the p/s fluid.
-Jack the front end up and prop up on jackstands so that the wheels turn free.
-Take off the p/s fluid reservoir cap and stuff a rag aroung the reservoir to catch any fluid.
-With car running, turn the wheel full left and right 10 times or so, then straighten wheels and check fluid.
-If fluid level is down, fill to proper hot level and turn full left & right 10 more times. Repeat until no more air or fluid burps out.
-Lower wheels back down and recheck fluid.

It's my understanding that the timing belt is replaced at the 100K service on the SC300. Mine's way overdue.

Post steamie headlights, seat trackproblems

To:mjr24
I have had most of thies problems before.
1. headlite condencation. remove headlite, done from inside finder well 2 #10 nuts rt side. use air through vent tube and a mixture of soap and water, you will mostly find the top of the litearound to the rt outside is leaking. use a silicone for repairing windshild leaks because it is very runny and will go to fix your problem.

2. seat tracks have a mechanical connection and probably just need to be tightened up or pushed back together.

hope that helps you!

Lex, what's up man. Mabye you could add a section about some J-spec parts that are just bolt-ons for the SC3/4. This could clear the problem of people constantly asking whether or not the J-spec speedo will fit and what not. Mabye a section also on the diff. b/t J-spec SC's (soarers) and US spec SC's

dont forget the bulb wattages and NOT to use a bulb with more wattage then stock. How to program a remote. Maybe a few common tips on clean the car and paint and the soft scrub leather treatment. I'm sure we'll have a million more things to add on later. Thats all I can think of right now.
