Supra TT Rims Polish Project.
Hey Guys im on another project, and a "DIY" if you wanna call it like that
as on my last thread i got some Supra TT Rims, and they were in pretty Bad condition in a way, but its worth the $400 with ALOT of elbow grease. i am not done with the project, so ill keep you guys posted, Thank you.
Tools I Used.
DA Sander:
180 Grit
220 Grit
240 Grit
400 Grit
Wet Sanding:
400 Grit
600 Grit
800 Grit
1000 Grit
1200 Grit
2000 Grit
2500 Grit
Buffing Compound(s)
Buffing Pads.
Mothers Metal Polish
Mothers Power Ball
Starting..
at first i was goign to Chrome them useing rattle can from dupli-color but that would just be "Ghetto" in many peoples cases so i gave polishing a shot.
i sanded using the DA at 180. thinking it would be alright... but of course i was wrong. there were pits when i tested polishing... so i kept on sanding the rims down, which turned out not bad at all, i got a reliable source that i could brass wheel the hard to reach spots, i am givign it a shot tomorrow after High School Graduation.. if anyone could give me tips on anything i would be glady to take them! heres the progress!
Thank you.

Left Side Polish Test Right side Sanded.
Polished.
Sanded.
Polished using a Portable Drill... (Weak drill)
Bought a 3000 RPM Cord Drill
Left: Sanded Right: Polished
Tomorow: Brass Brushing to get rid of pits, then the sanding/wet sanding continues.

Definitely glad to see you not going the dupli-color chrome route, that would of ended up chipping in the long run. Why not have them powdercoated silver?
If your going for a mirror like polish, you'll need a very high rpm buffer. It takes a looonnggg time to get it to start looking good but hopefully the end product will pay off.

Tip of the day. Before sanding all the clear and paint off go to walmart and buy a can of aircraft paint remover. This will take them down to the bare metal and you will actually be able to see the machined grooves in the wheel. I have done many wheels like this and it will really shorten your process. Ton of work but it looks like you are going to have one nice set of wheels when you are finished. Keep the pics coming. Love to see them on the car when you are done.

you honestly don't need all that sandpaper. i would've just done 400, 800, 1000, 2000, just taking my time at each grit. then a couple passes with the mothers powerball and polish.
no access to a sandblaster? that would let you skip a few steps
