Default help, r154 shifter housing confusion

I bought a "soarer" r154 without the shifter housing. Then i bought a supra r154 shifter housing and rod from a different seller. When i line up the shifter housing on the tail of the transmission, the bolt holes do not line up how they should, they are a couple millimeters off.

you can see in the pic that the shifter rod is already there which confused me

my question is, what shifter housing do i need?

You have a tripod style trans? Hmmmm, I would think that the housing would have the same bolt pattern but apparently not. If they are really only a couple millimeters off, you may be able to mod the housing enough to fake it and make them fit.

If not, you may be forced to source a tripod style shifter which will be nearly impossible.

Are you positive you have a r154 and not an externally shifted W58?

You should be able to modify the remote style shifter from an MK4 W58 and make it work the MK3 R154 shifter lever and housing will not work, i ran into that issue once before.

Mind explaining how you got yours to work? I read that they do not bolt up.

Would it be possible to change the tail housing of the transmission to a mkiii r154?

I am pretty sure the inputs have the same spline count. It probably is an R154, but I would post some pics so we can verify that first. It would suck to buy even more parts only to have them not work either...

Never mind, the bolt pattern looks like an R154 for sure. The W58 are all more aligned in a row. The rearmost 4 bolt holes on the R154 splay out more like yours.

Somebody was actually selling a tripod R154 setup in the classifieds before. I don't think he had any bites, and may still have it even though it was while ago.
