My "Mini-Me" HPI R/C Car Build Thread
Taking the obsession of my SC to another level, I decided to build an r/c replica of my car while it was at Shine Auto Project getting painted a few months ago. I picked up a shell and had my painter, Makito Nakai, painted it using the same batch of paint that was used to paint my car.
To make it resemble my car and not Ueno's D1GP machine, I am not putting any stickers on it nor a GT wing. Ironically, the r/c car will end up looking better than my real car since the Vertex Ridge, in my opinion, is the best looking kit out there for our cars, if properly executed.
So here are the pictures of the ongoing build:
Masked off Everything Before Paint
Fresh out of the paint booth. Makito Nakai sprayed from underneath (because r/c car shells act as a clearcoat) it with the the same 3 stage pearlescent paint that was used on my car but in the reverse order - pearl, base, primer/sealer (to make it as opaque as possible)
Under the sun after the body got cut out, masking removed, and decals applied
In case if anyone is wondering, the color is 3R1 Matador Red Mica from the 2nd Gen IS / 3rd Gen GS
Now that the body is done, I will pick up the chassis for it and some wheels and try to find the set of wheels closest to my chrome/polished Work Rexax II

I've built models for years and since I knew I was paying my Suburban off soon and would be looking to buy an SC I decided to buy a model of one to get some ideas about what I might want to do to it. SC models were never released in the US and are all curbside kits that don't have an engine. After some searching for a good deal I found this kit in Hong Kong, it has BBS wheels, optional 92-96 spoiler, but ts right hand drive. When I bought it on 1-11-11 I had no idea that by the time it got here I would have bought the real car.
I'm combining it with this Supra kit that has much more detail. I has a complete gte engine and a much more accurate suspension. It also has a left hand dash that will have to as I don't believe there has ever been a left hand drive SC/Soarer produced.
