Default Miles on half a tank...

I'm on my first tank and I was wondering how many miles I should get out of a half tank. I've got a 92 SC400.

I have strictly driven city, very little hard acceleration. I drive about 4-5 miles between turning it on a shutting it off. My "check engine" light is on and I probably need to change my O2 sensors, but I was curious to know how bad my mileage is.

I'll end up getting about 125 miles when the needle is on a half a tank. Keep in mind, 100% city, some traffic, etc. How many gallons will it take to fill up when the needle is at 1/2 a tank.

Uh, 10 gallons for half a tank. All city driving, I'd probably expect 125 miles to a half a tank. Could be more, could be less.

I know 10 gallons is half a tank, but is that really how many gallons are left when the needle is at half a tank?

With many of my cars, say the tank was 20 gallons, when the needle was at the mid marker, you had filled it up and you only put in 8-9 gallons. This is to give you a little room to play when you get down to the red, meaning you supposedly have no gas, but really have a couple gallons.

I just wanted to know if this was the case with the SC. Thanks!

I'm generally getting 350 to just under 400 miles from a tank with probably 70% freeway driving. I have noticed though that it seems like the first half of the tank goes faster than the second. Seems like about 140 miles till the halfway mark and 200 more till the light comes on. After the light is on its about 60-70 miles until the car dies. You should get that check engine taken care of, your mileage should improve a bit.

premium is ~$3.40 per gallon where I live in FL right now, so about $70 to fill it up...as that is the case, I rarely ever fill it...it's usually $30 here, $30 there. Next time I have $70 to drop at once for gas, I will let you know what my '93 is getting!!

It's a 20.5 Gallon Tank. When your needle hits half a tank - fill it up, the amount of fuel you put in is what you have consumed. take the number of gallons you put in when you filled up at half and subtract it from 20.5, this will tell you how much is left when you hit half tank.

EX- when you hit half tank you go to the station and fill up 9 gallons, so you have only used 9 gallons of the 20.5 and you have 11.5 left at half tank.

Note- in my experience with my sc400 and another the fuel needle is slow to react and laggy at times so do it a couple times to get an average because its prob not gunna always be the same.

hope this helps =)

I feel the opposite lol for me the needle stays at full forever but once it starts to go down it flys by.

I average around 20 mpg city/highway, half tank ~10 gallons = 200 miles per half tank.
