Just curious as to how many people have actually done it, how much it would cost, who they went through, etc. I realize it's pointless and expensive, but I think it'd be pretty cool to have an actual Soarer.

Its hard to find on around colorado but if you can find a SC300 i have another 1J and Mk3 with some goodies.
I will have a 1J with a manual W58 on it. Car currently has this setup but i am going to get going this weekend to Swap the Stuff from my Supra.
If you interested hit me up on a Pm or e-mail kasey@triplecrownsports.com

Just look for a Soarer in Vancouver (or anywhere in Canada really), there's a bunch on craigslist.
Not only will you save huge on shipping but it may be easier to import it to the US from Canada as a kit-car or in peices, rather than from Japan.

Canada would be your best bet.

I've heard that you can't actually legalize a Soarer on a federal level?

you can find soarers here in alberta for about 4k if you look for a bit. Also they usually have under 100k kms. Which is nice. I only got 61k km =D

There are lots in Canada, getting RHD cars that are less than 25 years old is really hard in the US but there are quite a number of people that have done it. I know of a guy in seattle who has a registered R34 and there is also a guy in virginia with a registered S15.

Soarers are quite cheap up here though. Actually when I was looking on sites like craigslist there weren't even any sc300/400's for sale, only soarers.
