Default So this finally happened (crank pulley fell off)

Merry Christmas to me. Apparently this is a common problem with these engines. Anybody else have any experience with this and know who has the best replacement?

The glue holding the two pieces together fails causing separation.

Yea i know first hand about that! When i picked up my car last summer i went to take the underside splash tray off just cuzz i was bored and felt like it. I get to the last bolt and a rusty pulley hits me in the face! after so investigating in the service records i concluded the same thing had happened to me if just fell off. But i still dont get why it was just chilling there lol it hurt.

same thing happened to me about 3 years ago. i just replaced it w/ a unorthodox light weight pulley and ran it for about 2 years and just recently went back to a stock replacement.

Its happened to me 4 times...but I guess thats what happens when you have owned 14 cars. The one on my 1JZ is about to fall off. I can tell. They start squeeking. They're not much fun to replace either. If I had an extra-I wouldnt sell it. If I had 2 extras-I would sell one. And I would NEVER EVER go lightweight crank pulley.

Be so thankful you went back! I managed to destroy a 2JZGTE because of a STUPID light weight crank pulley
All the other pulleys are fine-but crank is something not to ever mess with

Yup, I jacked up a motor with one of those too. Make sure you get a pulley with a damper.

So wait....you guys have never bent valves since the timing would spin off?

First of all, they are non-interference engines. Second, the valve timing is unaffected. The timing mark on the outside of the pulley is no longer accurate though.

The whole pulley doesnt fall off. I understand what he is saying. There are three parts to the crank pulley. The outer metal ring-a dampner-and the actual part that bolts onto the crank. When it falls off only the outer ring falls off making it impossible to keep a belt on.

Yes. Looks like I'm going with the ATI damper which is ****ing expensive as hell

EDIT: Actually, this will work won't it? It's not too expensive for what it is. https://www.horsepowerparts.com/inde...&product_id=62 and where the heck do I get a 15% longer serpentine belt?
