Default steering problem. have no clue whats up.

Ok recently my steering has been acting up.. when i slightly turn right/left the wheel will turn slightly but then it won't turn for about 3-4 inches, then it will catch again and start steering..

It's hard on turns because as soon as i start turning, i will think it's going to turn and when i start it won't until a certain point it will catch.. when i forget it happens i almost hit walls and barriers..

Is this a common sc problem? because I havn't heard it anywhere..

Someone's told me it was ran and pinion and others have told me have it professionly aligned..

HELP ME PLEASE, my gf drove it the other day and I almost lost my mind.

sounds like you needs steering rack bushing

I have the exact same issue, 99% sure that it's the whole rack and pinion.

I seriously hope not. those are expensive.. and I don't think I could walk up in a junkyard and peel a rack and pinion off a sc lol..

i think u should b able 2 find one at a junk yard believe or not allot of sc are scraped, such a shame but, search because i know in NJ there are plenty it the bone yard dude. good luck with the problem.

Agreed.

The description of symptoms is consistent with the rubber bushing being completely disintegrated and the steering rack itself moving until it hits the sides of the inner sleeve of the bushing and thereby takes up the slack of the missing rubber.

Regardless, if you change them and it fixes your problem you're done, and if it doesn't, it's no big deal to just reuse them if you end up needing to replace the entire rack. It's not like they are a one shot deal.

My car wouldn't turn until 9 Oclock and 3 Oclock positions. Kind of scary during a transition turn.

Ok I want to replace this steering rack bushing.. is it a easy process and where can i find one? How expensive are they?

It is your steering rack bushings for sure. I had this problem when I bought my SC. Daizen makes a set out of of urethane. They are $40 for the set of 3 and you can change them your self. The common reason for the ruber OEM bushings going bad is fluid leaking on them like power steering fluid and of course old age. Good luck on the swap.

wow I think that is the problem then.. what is the difference between the daizen ones compared to ones like at autozone or something?

its a easy fix..i did mine in my driveway with some hand tools i got it done in 20 minutes..there is a DIY for it somewhere on the forum..

The Daizen are urethane and OEM are rubber. The Dazen are stiffer, improve handling, and last longer.
