I would stick with the R154/W58/V160. I too have heard Nissan transmissions are weak compared to Toyota.

Default Just a thought

Just to give everyone some more thoughts on possibly swapping for a G35 Trans, is that if anyone has searched anything about those transmissions from 2002 - 2006 G35's, is that they have had numerous problems with these holding up with as little as 26K miles. These are for the 6 speeds. I just redone my buddies 04 G35 trans, with a new lightened flywheel, clutch kit, and fluid. His flywheel was so scarred that it couldnt be machined. It was also the color blue and had 2 deep pits in it. Lastly, I just completed this last weekend. After deep research on the G35's and the 350Z forums's, these absolutely suck and DO NOT hold up very well. I only charged my buddy $250, plus the parts just to help him out. I would stick the SC300 or MK ones. JMO.

I will try and post some pictures of the install tomorrow.

Some of you guys need to do better research. It's true stock VQ trannies are strong as long as it's the CD09. We have no less that 3 550+rwhp VQ cars here now with no issues. They break axles before anything. Much better than those pesky W58s I had in my SC. BTW, I have a W58 for sale .

Not doubting your research, just letting you know the problems he had on his and the research I done on it before attempting to replace it. Maybe he didnt have the CD09. ??

Are you saying that the tranny caused the flywheel and clutch to wear out that bad? Just wondering.

Actually, I think the weak link on them has historically been the stock dual mass flywheel and clutch combo. Once you put a better clutch setup on them, the tranny itself it plenty stout; trouble is that it sounds like a coffee can full of loose bolts without that dual mass fly.

This is true. We get complaints all the time.

Default Heres some pictures

I have to agree with you on this one. I believe its the dual mass flywheel, and the weak STOCK clutches. Heres a few pictures of my buddies install on his 2004 G35.

IMO, the main reason for going with this tranny is becauase it's a cheaper alternative to go 6 speed rather than v160.
I also read on supraforums that the v160 price is skyrocketting.

I will talk to him in person and hopefully test drive his car and let you guys know.
