So in 2-3 months ill be doing a w58 swap. Dont have the time or tools to do it myself so I need to bring it in to a shop. How much was labor for you guys? How much did you guys pay and how long did it take? I plan to take the car and all the parts to the shop or if I find someone where that would do it thats local that would be great.

Parts will run between $1500-$2000 labor will probably cost you close to the same. It's a somewhat easy swap that you could do your self but a shop will rape you because its a "custom install". Talk to RedPhoenix he co-owns a company called Quantum Automotive that makes an adapter for the sc400 w58 swap and is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject.

i spent about 3k my r154 swap did all my work my self. so my be about 2k in parts complete parts for w58 that is with new stuff like clutch lines pedals clutch ect ect.... mybe 1500 for some used stuff. if you think you can do it your self trust me you can if you just studdy it here on the forum and have someone help you.

I've seen a couple of w58 tranny's in the f/s section from $300 to a complete swap for about $2k.

I was in the same boat as you but just ended up selling my 97 auto and buying a 92 5spd with less miles and in better condition. Also came away with $1k in my pocket afterwards.

I'd just find a manual and buy that if you're going to pay someone to do it. I had a 97 white SC and sold it to buy a manual 97 (because the 97 5spd's are rare and I didn't want to do the work)

I got a quote for $650 for the labor about 3 hours from where I live. Really didnt want to pay more than $500 for the labor. I was thinking about selling it and buying a manual, but cant find one. Needs to be dwp or black. Heck ill take anything but green.

Quite honestly, $650 for a swap is not that bad. I'm assuming that labor includes everything from dropping the auto to installing the pedals?

I don't think the labor will cost that much. Local shop replaced a clutch, flywheel etc on my 88 RX7 Turbo II once (way way way back when I didn't know jack hahaha) and cost me about $400 (parts and labor). Then again, thats a while back. I don't see it to be much different with auto to manual.... I would definitely do half of the job tho like taking off the center console, installing the clutch and brake pedal as well as the clutch master cylinder then drive the car to the shop.... Give the shop a little guidance as there is really a couple of things they'll wire up like the neutral switch. Everything else should be plug and play considering you did your part on the research and gather absolutely all the parts you need.

Will the auto sc300 rear drive shaft work? Also did you use the howe bearing or quarter master? I have the howe...need a shaft, flywheel and a clutch and im all done!

This is an easy swap! Don't pay someone to do it! If you don't have the tools go to the flea market. You'll get everything you need for a few bucks. Anyone with common sense could do this swap in a day. I'm just sayin..

If you look in the right places you may be able to get prices down a few notches. What parts do you have right now? A buddy of mine has a W58 he will sell complete(transmission, clutch, flywheel, new throwout bearing, slave and masters) for $200.
