Would 350K miles turn you away from buying a 99' SC3 for cheap?

I can post some pics tomorrow. I think as long as the car checks out I'll be okay with it, but im really going to do some investigating. A mechanic buddy of mine who works on 2JZGTE's said he wouldn't worry about the motor so much as the transmission would be the thing he would worry about the most.

Anyways, $1,500 is dumb. You could sell the 97+ conversion for 1,000 all day long, not to mention gated shifter, 3 spoke wheel, tails, headlights...$1,500 would be part out price.

id buy him a cheeseburger for it, maybe be a whole combo ;P

dont get silly guys, sc was most reliable yota build correct?

id say around 3-3.5k is good price for it

i see '99 sc300 going upwards of 10k all the time

as matter of fact i am pretty sure i could easily part this sucker out for prob 4k or so
a mint tan interior is worth quite a bit aswell, and i dont have to say why

also if thsi car drove 350k miles you know some one looked after it, so car will be very maintained and driving fun, tranny is prob not original or might need a rebuild down the road

That's a good point. This car didn't get 350K easily. Someone must have cared for it a little bit!

I have my SC400 only to travel and do some 300miles trips and an WRX for DD.
My SC get more miles a year while the WRX gets the abuse.
The only problem with miles if you have taken care of your car is the resell value. Other than that, could be in perfect shape.

Thank you,

finally someone thats thinking the same as me.

Ok lets say you pay $3500 for this car(way too much by the way) and than you encounter a few problems--which would be expected for a car with this amount of miles.

Next thing you know your into this car like $5 -$6 grand and your still in a losing battle.

The oinly way to get this car is for very cheap and swap all the major components out of it .

Personally i would rather just put up a little more money and get a decent car with decent mileage.

Whether its a 99-00 OR NOT.

Good luck either way.

So if problems does NOT equal up to 5-6k and if it does why spend it just part out the damn car. I'm sure if your able to part out that 99 you'll get over 3.5k non the less.

But as one mention hell if it got up to 350k easy then what makes you think its going to break down right when he buys it? Also i'm sure he knows enough about cars to skip on it if something is totally off. He has owned enough SC's to know almost everything about the car itself unless he has someone else do the work.

I would jump on it. Post some pictures up though

These cars are made to last and if taken car of, then they are able to last 500,000 miles. Inj fact my 1992 lexus sc400 has 300,000+ miles on her and she is my daily driver..

I bought her with 266,000 miles and the only thing I had to replace was the alternator and power steering pump, which should've went out a long time ago..

I say do it.. if the body/interior looks immaculate, then I wouldn't mind fixing anything that goes wrong with the engine or tranny.. its a 99 and those things are expensive already..

my 94 sc400 has 260k on it. It is one of the cleanest best condition SCs that I've ever seen in person. I paid $2400 and it's been a fantastic car. Take that for what it's worth!

$1,500 sounds reasonable if the engine or transmission go out. I could understand if it was it was 250,000 miles or something but it's over a THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES on a 1999 car....

I don't know about you, but that's a lot of miles to me. That's a lot of miles in just ten years.

I'm not scared of higher mileage cars if they've been taken care of, but 350,000 is even higher than even, your car which is a great example of a well kept high mileage car.

I don't even know how someone can put that many miles on a car that's not even that old...

Checked this thing out today. Long story short-I didn't get the car. BUT- here is what I found.
Problems- needed an alternator. It wasn't totally gone, but was going to have to be replaced.
Exhaust cam seal was busted. Leaking a decent amount of oil.
Leather showing a little more than normal amount of wear.

However!
The car didn't smoke at all on cold start up (even with the dead battery...apparently someone left a light on)
Brand new looking motor mounts
Drove like a dream
Super smooth power steering
All in all the car was a great car.

The reason I didn't get the car. On craigslist it is posted at 3,900. I told them-I'll fix the problems and walk out and give you 3,000 cash for the car. He came back and said the best he can do is 4,100. I said...ummm on craigslist it says 3,900???? He was like he will honor it but, that is an honest typo. I said no, and we didn't make a deal. However I found another 99' I'm interested in...we will see what happens with it.
Had they taken 3,000 for it-I feel like I would have gotten a good deal. I knew it had been serviced at the dealer due to it having Lexus stickers and it had a new radiator with Toyota red
