So late last night I was looking through the stickied DIY thread looking for something easy and cheap to do today. I found this... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-required.html

It seemed easy enough and it was. This is my first "mod". Ive just been trying to do some maintenance first before I started on appearance stuff. But I've always liked the flat black look to the emblems. As shown in the above thread the stuff I used was Plasti Dip. I got it at Home Depot for like $5 for an 11oz can. All I had to do was mask off around the emblems and spray this stuff straight onto the paint and emblems. I did three coats in 15 min increments. After it has dried for about an hour I peeled the masking off and and it separates around the emblems at the break. no trimming required. I am very pleased with the results.

Looks great! Did you take the rear emblems off to do them or did you do it the same as the front one by masking around it?

I did the rears the same way. I just used a toothpick to pick out the excess in the small spaces. It was so easy. I'm definitely going to be experimenting with this on some other pieces. I would like to try the chrome around the doors and b pillars and rear windows. If I don't like it just peels up.

i think i was the one to post that in the DIY section haha ive done the same to my emblems and it has lasted a pressure wash, normal wash/scrubbing, road debris, and anything else that might cause it to come off. im doing my wheel emblems tomorrow so i will update on how the stuff stands up to brake dust/ wheel cleaners

the best part is if u scratch the plasti dip or you dont like it anymore it is simple to remove.

I did it the other day but I got impatient waiting for it to dry and messed it up in a few spots. I may redo it. It looks good tho

I think it should do pretty well. The guy whose thread I posted said that he used it on his bmw's grill for more than 2 years and it held up through car washes and rain and everything. But if it doesn't its no big deal, I can just peel the rest up and it will be the chome again.

I did the same to few extra emblems I have laying around.
Plus I added some Clear Gloss to see how it would look.

Good read on plasti-dip on JDM Chicago. I got a few cans do do my rims and if all goes well the whole front end of the g35 for winter. You can paint over it too.

I love this stuff. I cant wait to see what other more creative people than me do with this stuff. I didn't know you could paint it though.

JayCaz that looks great with the clear coat. Is that the plasti dip clear coat or just a regular aerosol spray. My home depot didn't have the plasti dip clear.

I've only seen Black Plasti Dip (spray can) and Yellow Plasti Dip (dipping can)
I used Krylon Clear Gloss.

Hey Li Ls4 it does looks better in person that pics.
I also reccommend using some type of heavy duty double sided tape
before spraying the Plasti Dip.

Hrrmmm i've seen this stuff plenty didn't know it was like that..

So if you spray it on something it will come up like vinyl once it dries?

Just bought my wife a 03 accord and it came with Ugly Gold emblems on a Graphite gray car, looks horrible, i definetly will check this out cause i was going to paint the emblems anyways..
