AC Display has no backlight
1993 SC400 - I purchased another ac display unit to replace my unit that has the cracked/black lcd. The backlight on the old display works great, I just can't see the display. I plug in the replacement unit, the lcd is crystal clear, just no backlight. The replacement is labeled for a 93 SC300, don't think that matters though. I swapped the front half containing the display with the other unit, still no backlight. I swapped the 3 bulbs from the old display to the new unit and still no backlight. Any suggestions on what would cause this? All of my searches show problems for a backlight with no display all related to a fuse, and I doubt its a fuse since the backlight works on the old unit? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I dont have any on this one. Thats a first. It shouldnt matter on it being a 300 or 400. I would try and just replace the LCD out of the old one with the new one, and you should be golden! Its only 40 pins to solder and has been done several times on here. Where in Bama are you?

Bump to the top for my good Sunday (church going) folks.....
Let me clarify a couple of things.....the backlights on the buttons don't work either...the 3 bulbs i swapped out were for the backlights on the buttons, not the display...the old unit had backlight on the buttons and the display...this one has no backlight on either, even after swapping out the 3 bulbs for the button backlights...Even swapping the front half containing the display from unit to to unit gives the same results...
Original unit -- cracked lcd but lcd and button backlight works
New unit ----- lcd is crystal clear, but no backlight for the lcd or buttons
new unit front half with display + the old units back half --- lcd is crystal clear, but no backlight for the lcd or buttons
Old unit front half with display + the new unit's back half---cracked lcd but lcd and button backlight works

Yup, same problem here. I do know that it happened when my wife put a power inverter into the cig lighter. She said that she heard a pop and then smelled something similar to burnt wiring.
