0-60 times for a stock 92 sc400
does anybody have the 0-60 and quarter mile times for a stock sc400? i read somewhere that these are much slower than the 95's with the extra 10hp. Is this true?
Do you guys think that ngk sparkplugs and wires along with a torque converter would decrease quarter mile times by as much as a 0.5 sec?

The numbers I have are 7.2 and 15.4, not sure where they're coming from though.
From what I heard about the TC (don't have it yet), it should drop your 1/4 time by .5 or more. Not sure about plugs though. My quess would be that you only see increased performance in case your old spark plugs were worn.

Actually, these cars love a looser converter, despite the fact that the oe converter has a decent stall. You'll see more of a gain than .2 sec, look for a stall of around 2800rpm (not flash stall). I don't feel that perf plugs and wires are a hoax, it's just that the oe Lexus wires are excellent and the oe plugs are Platinums. You can upgrade to Iridiums, i.e. Denso, but you're talking about literally a couple of hp at the very most. Switching to synthetics is always a good idea as well. I've seen SC4's that ran as slow as low 16's stock, just ask Mad Max. You'll be real lucky if ya click off a low to mid 15 on a stock '92. For the track, you can also unbolt the mufflers, it takes all of 60 seconds to do.

1992 SC400 0-60 varies from magazine to magazine.. soem clain 6.7, some 6.8, but lexus says 6.9, so I'll go with that. 1/4 times have been low 15s, lexus claims 15.3. This is completely stock, doing some things like an intake kit and such other things do make improvements.
As for perfromance spark plugs, you might want to get the iridium ones from denso, not for the few hp you get extra which is not much, but for the running smoothness it says it adds.

Hey , I just want to let you know that this is my 4th Lexus, and I don't know what to do b/c as always I've got borring and started searching the autotrader for some other car. I found this BMW 525i 5spd that I can get for $3000 and it looks like new from inside and outside, was thinking to put a turbo or supercharger on it. What do you guys think about it should I sell my SC400 and get that bimmer.
Here is one reason I would like to keep Lex. , averytime I buy another car I'll go and G-tech it.
I've had 92 SC400 before with 78k miles that run 6.84 in 0-60, don't know the 1/4 mile time b/c I sold the car before I've got to do it. After that I bought 1996 Audi A4 v6 7.03 0-60 , Dodge stealth TT - didn't get a chance to test it b/c the power plug didn't have no power in it and it was too cold outside to find a fuse.
Sold it. ( trans. synchros were bad ).
Now I've got this 92 SC400 with 232000 miles , friend of mine got it from an action in WI.
I know you wont believe me but I don't believe it my self. First time I g-tech it was 7.6 , 7.4,6.9,
and now yesterday when I was going to work I g-tech it 6.34 0-60 and 1/4 mile 14.56.
I didn't believe it so I went to try it tonight again 7.4 with a lot of wheel spin , I've found me a new asphalt street here in Chicago and brake torque it up to like 2-3000 RPM and 6.23 0-60.
Is this possible or there is something wrong with my G-tech. Ooooo one more thing before I refuel four days ago , I put one of those Red line fuel system cleaners. Do you think it did such a big difference.
The car is all stock I think, no afermarket exhaust or intake , unless somebody did the ECU uppgrade.
Does any of you guys have new G-tech meters here in Chicago area ?
Now if the car runs really 6.3 in 0-60 I'll keep it if not I'll get the bimmer.
I've e-mailed Peter in Australia and he said that supercharger is going to be for sale for $7000 UAD = about $4100 USD you get 40% HP and 40%TRQ I think it's about 350-400 HP with exhaust and intake on a motor. Enough for me.

Sounds good to me. You should probably just try the torque converter and ecu uppgrade with an intake kit before you do a supercharger. The first three together would bring your 250 hp rating up to 350 and possibly even beyond.

When I first got my SC4 with bald tires on it, even with a lot of wheelspin thru first I easily beat on Acura TLs (with plenty of mods, then he decided to spray his 100shot on me lol) and a stock VW GTI VR6. After I did tune ups and got the car back up to better shape with nice new tires and all, I raced a few Acura CL-S's (auto) and we were dead even or id be slightly ahead. I dont see any problem with my old car running low 15s or even high 14s, it seems faster than my mazdaspeed and ive seen times for it between 14.9-15.2 stock with a good driver (of course mine isnt fully broken in yet).

14.5 in the 1/4 mile?!?! That sounds too good to be true.
My 1993 Sc400 ran a 15.8 stock on a cool fall night.
My modded SC400 with TC and headers ran a flat 15 on a 80+ degree hot summer day while spinning off the line.
My time slips are on the forum somewhere.

Im surprised noone here has mentioned the 98-2000 SC400. That was when the 4.0 V8 jumped up to 290 hp from 260 hp. That does make a difference. The 0-60 time on that model was 6.1, with a 1/4 mile time of 14.6. I would be interested to know if anyone has dropped in the newer 4.3 V8 into the old body SC. I imagine that that would move right along. Later.

i plan on dropping in the 98+ motor into my 92 when and IF she needs it, i love that car too much to let it go even when shes 11+ yrs old, plus $3k for a motor into a nice SC is a better deal than anything else out there.

looking thru old magazine/paper reviews from the 92, 96, and 98 model years, ive found that the _official_ numbers are 6.9sec 0-60 for the 92 sc400, 6.8 for the 96, and 6.1 for the 98. my guess is you can best these numbers with a stock car if 1) your car is in very good running shape and 2) you powerbrake on launch. my guess is to achieve the official numbers, the toyota drivers just manually powered thru the gears while flooring it - i seriously doubt they would have published numbers for a powerbrake launch. powerbraking does wonders for our cars off the line, tho it creates a lot of heat in the tranny.

PS you would also need to switch the 5spd auto in with the 98+ motor, most of the extra power you would get would be lost if you kept the 92 tranny in there.
