Default Help: sc300 Drive Belt tension bolt just spins?

Hi there,
I'm Trying to replace the serpentine belt on my 92 sc300 as we speak. I've checked out the DIY threads and whatnot, and it seemed pretty straightforward... BUT:

The 14mm bolt on the self tensioner is simply spinning when i try to push down on it to relieve the tension! It will get fairly loose, then tighten back up a tiny bit, then get loose again. Never is it tight enough for me to apply enough force to move the tensioner though.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is there another way to go about moving the tensioner that im not aware of?

Any help would be much appreciated!

by the way:
reason im replacing belt is that i have a horrible squeal through the entire rpm range, that never goes away.
serpentine belt? or might there be a bad bearing as well that im dealing with?

Are you pressing the tensioner down clockwise?

If you are then I would think that the threads are stripped :/

Good luck

Yeah going clockwise... and just talked to the previous owner of the car, from the sounds of it, you're right, might be stripped. >.>

So i guess my question now is:

How the heck do i apply enough force to get the tensioner to swing, without using that bolt?

i would replace the tensioner while you're at it.. since that seems to be a problem already.. goodluck

I would say to get a rod and try and wedge it in between the top of the tensioner wheel and belt and just pull in that clockwise direction. You're really going to have to get a new tensioner when you go to put back on the new belt.

I haven't had that problem but that seems like the only logical choice to me to get the biggest moment on that arm.
