Default Do NOT forget about your Fuel Filters!

Just a heads up to everyone, your SC might be running flawless right now, but a fuel filter is a hidden maintenance item that can prove very harmful if ignored. Its right behind your driver side tire in the fuel line. Chances are, its rusted in place just like mine is. The new filter is 10 bucks at any auto store, but definitely replace this if you can BEFORE you have to since chances are its the original filter from your cars year.

As of now I can't drive my SC because of the filter. There is hardly any fuel reaching my engine and it misfires like a mother _____. I tried pulling out onto the highway and it wouldn't go past 2k rpm and misfired like I've never heard before. Its the original one from 1993 so I'm sure its been LONG needing a replacement. I took a video on my cell phone of my tachometer just taking huge dips trying to drive 30 mph. This is bad. I'm going to the store to buy some PB blaster to TRY and free up the nuts and bolts on the fuel line because I really do NOT want to snap the fuel line.

This sucks.

Are you serious? Fuel filter needs to be changed every 100k miles.

All depends on the condition of your gas tank, the tank where you get your gas, weather or not they run filters before their pumps or the old carbon screens that rust and disappear (leaving your tank full of whatever trash was in their's) A lot of the gas stations in my area are older and you never see anyone service the pumps until there's a problem....I also cut both my old oil and fuel filters open after replacing each time to check the filter elements for debris. Try it sometime, you'll be surprised what you find in a short period of time.

Fuel filters and other filter need to be changed more often in Dusty Areas. Their is not need to change it every 20K miles. This is pointless and just waisting money.

But good thing your helping out the economy.

I wonder how old my fuel filter is. Does anyone here have pics of its location? Still new to the SC game...

What's the owner's manual say about changing the filter? This thread already has posts ranging from every 100k miles to as often as every third oil change. This is very confusing for those of us not mechanically-adept...

Mine was changed a few months ago, at around 136k. Wasn't rusted on because it's a florida car but we couldn't figure out at the time how to stop the fuel from pumping through. We had to drain the 1/4 tank that was in there prior to changing.
