If you can't read 1 page of directions then you must also be too lazy to fix it as well.
Take it to the dealer and spend the $900. to have them repair it for you.

The Metal thing can't come off. I think I need an adjustable wrench. because I've tried 3/8, 7/16 and it's either too big or too small.

My tilt doesn't go up or down because the wheel is unaligned with the screw above it.

Default Power steering

I just took a chance on buying a 95sc 400 with 175K on it. I knew it needed work. With the help of this forum I was able fix my tilt steering. Thanks so much for the information!

My Tilt til up but not down. What do I do? I have the blue ring removed now and No auto tilt. The screw spins up but not down, that's why Im sure it's not becase the blue ring is in the center or not.

sounds like your connection to the switch is bad or the motor is not going into reverse.

when you press it to go down, do you hear anything happening?
if the screw does not move at all, ur right, that would not be a centering issue.

generally if an electric motor spins one way, it should be just fine spinning the other direction when the polarity is reversed. So then i would check the connectors.
If for some reason two seperate motors are used for up and down which seems rather silly to me, it could be either the motor or connection or both.

Yeah motor spins one way (up) and when it doesn't spin down, it doesn't make any noise or anything at all.

I don't know if I want to open up the **** again, what a hella grease mess...

Wow, I feel ripped off. I read several posts that claim they spent anywhere from .27 cents to .99 cents on garden hose washers. I just spent a whopping 1.99 plus CA. sales tax for a grand total of $2.15. Although there were 10 garden hose washers in the package, I'm still slightly green with envy.

By the way, the fix worked perfectly well. I had a grinding noise when ever I tried to lower my wheel. It eventually got to the point where it would telescope both directions, go up, left and right--and would grind profusely when trying to tilt down.

Carefully pulled everything off and I only needed two washers behind the blue gear. Works well...Thanks c_irie and the rest of CL!!!

DDDDDuuuuddeeeee........thank you so much for this write up. Before I bought my daughters sc300, I knew that the tilt did not work. Bought it, found this site, and baddda bboommm tilt and telescopic working flawlessly. Hardest part was splitting the plastic clam shell.

worked like a charm, I used 2 O rings so I didn't even have to pull off the blue gear.
